As our text defines management it puts it as an art.

"Getting things done through the


efforts of others" (Carpenter, Bauer, & Erdogan, 2012), and generally I have to agree with this
assessment. Adding on to this, management will entail developing the team so that they are
productive for the company, mentoring them when necessary, and providing all the tools to
successfully complete their tasks.

Managing others is an art form that is nebulous. There is no true one size fits all method
to doing it properly. Adding a bit more I will include what I have found to be an effective
manager. An effective manager will be a person that has a bit of knowledge mastery in the field
of the team they run. They will guide the team to success in their functions without making the
team feel their presence too much. The last trait that comes from effective management is
fairness. A good manager will know when to put the team ahead of themselves as well as when
to properly discipline the team or members as needed. This last part is more of social goal, but
as a study by Daniel Sgroi (2015) shows that employees that are happy are more productive
than employees that are not happy.
