The diagrams illustrate the potential changes to the centre of a town named Islip.

The town is planned to expand to the north converting the countryside into part of it, a. And
a dual carriageway will be built surrounding the town centre.

The area of shops at the northern end will be expanded and divided for different purposes,
such as a bus station, a shopping centre, a car park and a new residential areasome new
housing. Because of these new facilities, the current main road will be replaced by a street
only for pedestrians only.

The shops in the middle of the town centre will be preserved.

In the southern part of the centre, another new housing groundsthere will be constructed
new housing, and, consequently, the park to theits east of the housing will shrink.

The school and the current housing areis proposed to remain at the southern end of the
centre, but they will be disconnected from other areas by the future dual carriageway.

To summarize, Islip town centre is expected to undergo some significant changes in the
future, especially in the modification of transportation infrastructure and in the building of
new projects at itsits northern partquarter.
Task 2

Opinions are divided on whether tall buildings are suitable for city planning. Some people
regard them as the best formoption, while others prefer a horizontal city. Although I
understand the two opposite views, I believe that it would be inevitable that cities develop
vertically.

Tall buildings are widely built because they could allow more people live in cities. They offer
more living spacespaces occupying limited land. Nowadays, many cities tend to be
overcrowded due to the rising population, which. This increases the demand for housing;, thus
cities have no choice but to expand vertically. If there were no tall buildings, a large amount
of people would not be able to have a place to live. (Great paragraph!)

On the other hand, some people would rather choose a city where there are few buildings
because they believe that it enables them to engage with nature more directly. If they spend
all day long working and living in tall buildings, they would feel disconnected from nature.
Hence, they aspire for a house with a yard, where they can breathe fresh air, which could help
them to reduce stress and anxiety. In addition, safety is another important concern. In case of
an earthquakeearthquake, it would be easier for people who live in low houses to save
themselves.

Personally, I believe that tall buildings would be the trend for the development of cities and
itthis mayshould not be changed by individual willings, because vertical cities are capable of
housing more people. If citizens would want to engage with nature, they cancould go to public
parks or keep some plants and flowers at home.

In conclusion, since vertical cities are able to hold a larger amount of accommodation facilities,
they are more covenient for the rapid development of growing cities.
