From the site visit we have last March 15 at Cedar Peak Condominium Baguio; different observations
were made with their Cable Television (CATV) System. In accordance to the Philippine Electronics Code
Book 3 (Cable Television System), it was seen that the establishment complied to some of the
requirements stated in the book. For the chapter one, which is the general provisions, (code 1.8.1 states
that an electronic permit is needed before work is started. Technically, the establishment would not
be allowed for operation if it does not have it’s permit.) Engr. Mark Retuta gave us a copy of the riser
diagram of the building’s CATV System in which the plan has a scale of NTS (Not To Scale) which means
the plan should not get a physical scale out to measure anything since the copy is in digital file. This
complied to codes 1.9.1.1, 1.9.1.2, and 1.9.1.3. The plan does not have the complete required contents
as stated in the code 1.9.2.

For chapter two of PEC Book 3, which is the service entrance facility, the establishment was observed to
have exceeded the minimum requirements for the vertical clearances such except for the railroad
tracks. Additionally, it also passed the minimum horizontal clearances. Its drop cables do not trespass
the neighboring property lines, placed on the nearest pole of the building, were on the same side as
electrical utility line, thus complying to codes 2.2.2, 2.2.3, and 2.2.4. Though the cable was attached
directly in the building, it does not make use of proper hardware fixtures hence resulted to the
noncompliance of codes 2.2.5, 2.2.6, 2.2.7, and 2.2.8. Cedar Peak has a service entrance cable of 0.500
coaxial cable and was laid out from the outside plant to the service entrance box of the building via
aerial following the code 2.4.1 and 2.5.

The establishment has a tree-and-branch architecture or most commonly known as coaxial network. It
also has conduits and pull boxes. There are pull boxes installed in each floor of the building. These pull
boxes are interconnected through the floors with the use of conduits and also has an accessible location.
In the Backbone Distribution System chapter of the book, these designs complied to codes 3.2.1, 3.2.3,
3.3, 3.4.1, 3.4.2, 3.4.3, 3.4.4, 3.4.5, 3.4.6, 3.4.7, and 3.4.9.

For the Horizontal Distribution System, Cedar Peak made use of one of the recognized cables which is
coaxial cable, conduit pathways with no more than 90 degrees bends. This conform to codes 4.1 and
4.2.5.

The group was able to observe not just the Electrical room and Telephone room where the equipments
are located. Engr. Retuta also gave us a chance to observe a vacant room of the said condominium. In
that room, there are two outlet boxes, one for the telephone and the other one for the cable television.
The TV outlet box is not 15 cm apart from the electrical outlet at the same level. Additionally, Engr.
Retuta told us that they are using Cat 5e patchcord.
