1. Title of the Project:

“Gas lift System (by mechanism of Gas Lift Mandrels)”

2. Introduction:
The principle of gas lift is that gas injected into the tubing reduces the density of the fluids in
the tubing, and the bubbles have a “scrubbing” action on the liquids. Both factors act to lower
the flowing bottomhole pressure (BHP) at the bottom of the tubing.

3. Objective of the Project:

The objective of the study is to maximize profit from an oil field on a day-to-day basis.
This is aimed at reducing the weight of the column of fluid in the tubing so that the
differential pressure of the well is adequate to lift the column and to overcome the
resistance of the tubing, pipes and connections. Hence, increase production rates in
flowing wells.

4. Project Methodology
4.1 Literature Review:

1) GAS LIFT MANDREL FOR USE IN WELLS (US305970):

This invention relates to wells from which oil is produced by means of a gas lift system.
More particularly, this invention is an improved gas lift mandrel for use in wells. If an oil
producing well does not have sufficient formation pressure to flow the oil from the formation
to the earth's Surface, some sort of pressure increasing mechanism must be included in the
well. One form of pressure increasing system consists of a plurality of gas lift valves
vertically spaced apart within the production tubing.

2) One-way valve for a side pocket mandrel of a gas lift system

(US7228909B2):

Embodiments include providing a gas lift system comprising production tubing disposed
within a wellbore, the production tubing capable of allowing fluid flow in a first direction
from outside the production tubing through a wall of the production tubing to inside the
production tubing to introduce a gas into the bore of the production tubing, while preventing
fluid flow in a second direction from inside the production tubing through the wall of the
production tubing to outside the production tubing. In one aspect, fluid flow in the second
direction is prevented by operation of at least two valve members disposed within a side
pocket of a side pocket mandrel in the production tubing. At least one of the valve members
is capable of preventing fluid flow in the direction even when the other valve member is
removed from the wellbore or is at least partially inoperative.
4.2 Planning the Model:
We tend to use glass or fiber as the outer covering of the model, hollow cylinders
with pipe connections as the well and tubing some artificial material as the mandrels,
artificial mud for showing rock strata or formation, submersible pump for flowing the
well. We might use pressure meters also that will depend on the budget of the
model. We will mainly focus on the gas injection to tubing through gas lift mandrels
from surface connections and increase the pressure of the flowing formation fluid.

4.3 Components needed:

1) Casing: Steel pipe cemented in place during the construction process to stabilize the
wellbore. The casing forms a major structural component of the wellbore and serves several
important functions: preventing the formation wall from caving into the wellbore, isolating
the different formations to prevent the flow or crossflow of formation fluid, and providing a
means of maintaining control of formation fluids and pressure as the well is drilled.

2) Annulus: The annulus is the area between two concentric objects, such as,
between the wellbore and casing or between casing and tubing, where fluid can flow.

3) Tubing: Tubing is the normal flow conduit used to transport produced fluids to the surface
or fluids to the formation. Its use in wells is normally considered a good operating practice.

4) Gas Lift Valve: A gas-lift valve is a device installed on (or in) a gas-lift mandrel, which in
turn is put on the production tubing of a gas-lift well. Tubing and casing pressures cause
the valve to open and close, thus allowing gas to be injected into the fluid in the tubing to
cause the fluid to rise to the surface.

5) Gas lift Mandrel: A gas-lift system component that is assembled with the production
tubing string to provide a means of locating gas-lift valves

5. Estimate of Cost: Around 6 - 7 thousand
