1. Which cities are they? Where are they? Why are they important?
New York and London are two big cities. They are interesting and
they attract thousands of tourists every year. Read about them and
find out: which is your favourite city?
New York is on the east coast of the USA. It is a big, modern and
cosmopolitan city. There aren’t any old castles or palaces in New
York. There are a lot of tall modern buildings and skyscrapers – the
Empire State building is 102 floors high! In this building there are a
lot of offices and shops. In the streets there is a lot of traffic. There
are many cars and taxis. The cars are big and comfortable and the
taxis are yellow. In the middle of the city there is a big park: Central
Park. There is a big museum of art in the park. It’s a green and
healthy area in the middle of a very busy city.

London is the capital of England. It’s in the south of England, on the
River Thames. There aren’t a lot of tall modern buildings in London.
There are big modern offices in old buildings and there are a lot of
historical buildings – palaces, churches and museums. The Tower
of London, for example, is a very old castle. It’s 900 years old! In the
busy streets of London there are old red buses, old black taxis and
small modern cars. There isn’t a big park in the middle of the city,
there are five parks in different parts of the city. London is a green
city!
