Water Bottle- $1

Colored Dish Soap- $1

Glitter- $1
Warm water- free from tap

For the Dollar for Accessibility project I decided to create a sensory bottle. For students with
emotional disabilities, a huge part of their curriculum is learning the skills of mindfulness. If a
student cannot learn to calm themselves down or slow down their actions then it can start to
affect their academic ability. Sensory play helps stimulate the senses. By watching the glitter,
students are often mesmerized by watching their slow descent in breath and helps them
regulate their emotions.

To create this sensory bottle, you first need to collect all of the materials. Next, you must empty
out the water bottle if you have not already done so. Following, the colored dish soap will be
poured into the empty water bottle until it is about halfway full. Then, glitter will be added to
the water bottle (now containing dish soap). The more glitter the better! Once the glitter is
added, turn the faucet on warm/hot water and run the faucet until the water has reached a
warm/hot temperature. Fill the water bottle until full of warm water and put the lid back on the
water bottle. Shake the bottle until all contents are mixed together. You now have a wonderful
sensory bottle that can be used in class!
