FULL DIRECTOR’S CUT RULES

(Official Errata + Director’s Cut)
by Gioacchino Prestigiacomo - Updated: October 2014 (v. 5.0)

The following rules comprehend the Official Errata with the Director’s Cut rules. It is recommended to use the
following rules to play the game.

1. PLAYER SCREENS (official resource)

Download for free the player screens from the publisher site. The back of each screen lists the game rounds,
phlogiston’s costs and are indispensable to hide your wealth from your rivals.
2. BLACK MARKET SET-UP (official errata) – page 12 of the rulebook
During step 3 of “Game Setup,” place the black market good slider on the far right space (“50”) of the black
market row on the Commodities Exchange.
3. COMBAT RULES (director’s cut) – page 21 of the rulebook
Rally Crew: during the first step of the combat round, players add the combat value of ALL the Crew
Cards hired in their ships.
4. CREW & ILL WINDS ERRATA (director’s cut)
99 The cost of the Boatswain (Crew Card) is 20 GP and not 10 GP.
99 The hold number of the Gunner (Crew Card) is 6 and not 4-5-6.
99 The reward of the Pirate King (Ill Wind Card) is 50 GP and not 100 GP.
5. WANTED TRADERS PENALTY (director’s cut) – page 23 of the rulebook
A destroyed player that owns one or more Wanted Tokens doesn’t receive Insurance & Charity payments.
This rule decreases piracy and increases the trading aspect of the game.
6. INVESTMENT LIMITS (official errata) – page 26 of the rulebook
The small printed dice icons in the investment boxes of each class of legal goods no longer limit the number
of dice that can be assigned to the box. Instead, up to 4 dice can be assigned to each of the positive and nega-
tive boxes. However, when calculating the price adjustments, players only count the dice in each box up to
the number of printed dice icons. For example, if four dice are assigned to the positive die box for class 6,
only two of those dice are counted towards the class 6 price adjustment.
When adjusting the market prices for the Sludge Exchange and the Black Market, count all of the dice in
the positive and negative boxes, regardless of the dice icons.
7. SHORTAGE AND SURPLUS (director’s cut) – page 28 of the rulebook
Ignore Step 3 of the Guild Council. This decreases the randomization in the market and gives players more
control of prices.
8. PURCHASING GUILD INFLUENCE (official errata) – page 28 of the rulebook
Blue Influence costs 3 GP; Yellow costs 5 GP; Orange costs 10 GP.
9. THE VOLCANO (director’s cut) – page 29 of the rulebook
When a player dumps his sludge into the Volcano, he will receive a reward equal to 1 GP for each discarded
Sludge.
10. LUXURY GOODS (director’s cut)
OPTIONAL: if you like, you could replace the cardboard barrels with colored wooden cubes.
11. COLLECT MINERALS (director’s cut) - pag. 19 of the rulebook
Players may collect minerals not only in a city tile, but in any tile.
12. PHLOGISTON GEYSER (director’s cut) - pag. 20 of the rulebook
A player who is mining the clouds in the Phlogiston Geyser, fully recharges its phlogiston reserve.
