    II. Adagio Cantabile

    1. Adagio = very slow


    2. Cantabile = in a beautiful singing style
    3. 2/4 time signature mean 2 paluses. For more singing and more
    expressive.
    A section
    Bass needs to Cres. To support the melody line. (L.H. follow R.H.)
    Keep moving although it’s slow. Don’t accent the note when you have
    long note before short note.
    B section
    Get cres. from the left hand.
    1 idea for the turn.
    C section
    “Magnet” Every phrase have a magnet in it. It’s up to us. 1 place has a
    magnet. 2 people are talking (bass and soprano).

    Early Russian piece.


    Has 2 sides. He believes that F# Major chord is purple.
    He creates a piece called “Mysterium” for pianist, dancer and
    orchestra. And it’s going to performed in Himalaya mountain. It’s going
    to be a week long piece.The end of the piece, the world is going to end.
    That was he imagine.
    He wrote this piece when he was a teenager.
    Think about 1st phrase is all the wave. Relax when up beat.
    Catch up the pedal with the bass. Early Russian music is a sense of “life
    is difficult”. Many repeat notes make it’s so sad. The story of this piece
    is doesn’t end well.

    William Bolcom is a famous composer in America. This piece inspired


    by ragtime (Father of Jazz) in 1960.

    Almost rock and roll music. Pedal off…Pedal off…

    Show left hand rhythms more. Try not to be a classical pianist.
    Chopin part change the feel to sing like your girlfriend broken you up long
    time ago and come back suddenly to rock and roll. Take more time at
    sentimental part. After that speed up as fast as you can. Then joke come
    with knock the piano sound like drums. Keep tempo… click…
    Back to serious again.(feel diabolical)
    Ragtime always care about cincopations. End with BIG up.
