patented “foamed glass” product made from 100% recycled glass. Recycled glass is ground into a silica glass powder, mixed with foaming agents and proprietary additives, then baked in a kiln to form a highly porous, rigid, foamed glass material. Material is then crushed and sieved to the desired size range.
Originally developed as a soil aerator, foamed glass
has been found to be well suited as a support media for biological odor control systems. The foamed glass is completely inert to the acidic environment in a bio-trickling scrubber, has very high porosity, is lightweight, retains about a 2:1 ratio of air filled pores to water, and has an elevated pH to help buffer the acidity and reduce water usage compared to other biological odor control media.
BioglasTM is specially formulated to a specific size range, with proprietary additives to
provide an optimum substrate for the growth of odor control bacteria. It is 100% made from recycled glass waste that would otherwise be buried in landfills.
