Chapter 1

THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

Introduction

Credit cards are widely being used all over the world. There is an assumption,

that if one has a credit card and passes verification, the access is granted. Such an

approach entails few threats: using of credit card being in possession of unauthorized

people (stolen or just borrowed), risk of cloning card. One of the solution is verification

of the biometric linkage between the signed facial image of the credit card holder

embedded in credit card and the user's facial image captured by a webcam during usage

of the card. Our goal is to compare the similarity of faces embedded in the credit card and

user. The face scanning is done using efficient facial image representation based on Eigen

face texture features. It uses Eigen's Principal Component Analysis (PCA) for the

dimensionality reduction. found a way to connect shoppers and their bank accounts

without the need for plastic of any kind: Its system, which it plans to roll out to select

businesses soon, will enable customers (who have preregistered with a major credit card)

to pay for their purchases simply by having their picture taken. Facial recognition

software then analyzes the image and links it to the account, after which the customer

only needs to confirm the purchase by pressing OK. A promotional video describes

possible scenarios, including grocery shopping, filling up the gas tank, and checking in at

the airport.
It's hard to deny the appeal of leaving cash and credit cards at home in exchange for a

readily-available and somewhat difficult-to-steal alternative. claims it uses military-

quality algorithms for security, but in case participating customers aren't willing to have

their picture taken everywhere they go, a sliding monthly fee scale is available: Seven

euros means the system will give them worldwide access, while three euros restricts

access to a single metropolitan area, and one euro limits photo-taking to stores within a

couple of kilometers of a specified location, such as a home or office.

Nowadays, credit cards are being used worldwide. Credit and debit cards are fast becoming

the most common payment mode of big purchasers; pushing more and more businesses

towards credit card processing services. People use credit cards for online transactions, in

shopping malls, for taking cash out of ATM, etc. Credit card fraud is the biggest risk in

credit card transactions. Credit cards and the pin codes of the credit cards can be stolen.

The proposed solution provides a secure method for credit card authentication using Eigen

Faces facial recognition technology. As the problems stated above motivated us to use

Digital Image processing that can secure the overall credit card system by using face

recognition of the user. Face recognition is a both challenging and important recognition

technique. Among all the biometric techniques, face recognition approach possesses one

great advantage, which is its user friendliness (or non-intrusiveness). The survey made also

explains the ease of using the proposed algorithm and the benefits of face recognition

technique. A business can no longer afford not to offer its customers multiple payment

options. Credit and debit cards are fast becoming the most common payment mode of big

purchasers; pushing more and more businesses towards credit card processing services. A

credit card transaction starts with a swipe at a credit card terminal or by the entry of the
card details (card-less transaction) into a billing system. Before the amount moves from

the card holder's account into your business account, certain validations, checks and

deductions are made. All these tasks are managed by the credit card processor. Credit card

processing companies make sure credit card transactions are processed accurately and on

time, for a fee . As more and more customers get comfortable with cashless transactions,

businesses are pulling all the stops to make credit card transactions secure and painless.

Cashless transactions benefit your business. Funds are transferred into your merchant

account on time with hardly any effort from your side. The fundamental problem faced by

the credit card users is to have a secure online transaction using credit cards. Credit card

fraud is the biggest risk in credit card transactions. Credit cards are stolen and used to make

large purchases, often leading to heavy losses for the credit card processing service and the

business. The proposed solution provides a method for credit card transaction system which

will integrate with the face The credit card transaction is an application where the data

given by the user can be traced and accessed over the network which is a major problem.

As the problems stated above motivated us to use the digital Image processing that can

secure the overall credit card system by using face recognition of the user. Face recognition

is a both challenging and important recognition technique. Among all the biometric

techniques, face recognition approach possesses one great advantage, which is its user-

friendliness (or non-intrusiveness). A generic framework for face recognition, factors that

may affect the performance of the recognizer, and several state-of-the-art face recognition

algorithms have been explained. Face recognition is one of the few biometric methods that

possess the merits of both high accuracy and low intrusiveness.

Statement of the Problem

This study aimed to analyze the correlations of the information of the credit card

users. Specifically, this study aimed to answer the following questions:

1. Who is the beneficiaries of the research?

2. What is the positive and negative effects of the research?
3. What are the benefits?
4. Will it help the credit card users to private their account?
5. Will the problem be solved?
Hypothesis

There is no relationship exist between credit card users and facial recognition users.

Significance of the Study

This study is for the future researchers, credit card users, and the new generation

of people to our community to lessen the theft of the credit card privacies. To easily

withdraw without hesitations and to make sure your credit card is secured and protected

by you.

To the future researchers, this study will guide you on what is the importance of using

facial recognition in withdrawing your credit card.

To the credit card users, this study will help you easily access your credit card without

hesitations. To make sure that your credit card is secured.

And lastly to the new generation of people to our community, this study will help you

protect your credit card to those criminals who want to stole your information and your

credit card.

Scope and Delimitation

This study analyzed the sources of the credit card users. And determined if there

was a significant relationship exists between the credit card users and facial recognition.

Moreover, the scope of this study is to know who is the thief, to faster withdraw the money.

And also to secure the account. But, the study was delimited to possibility of identity theft.

Possibility of losing the privacy of the data, and possibility of losing the data. The study

was conducted for the credit card users and for the safety of their credit cards.

Definition of Terms

The following terms were defined in accordance with their conceptual and

operational meanings for the better understanding of the study.

Facial Recognition. Facial Recognition is a biometric software application

capable of uniquely identifying or verifying a person by comparing and analyzing patterns

based on the person's facial contours. Facial recognition is mostly used for security

purposes, though there is increasing interest in other areas of use.

Credit Card. A credit card is a payment card issued to users (cardholders) to enable

the cardholder to pay a merchant for goods and services based on the cardholder's promise

to the card issuer to pay them for the amounts plus the other agreed charges
