Preface

The narrative piece “Perceived Imperfection” highlights a young woman named Kim who was
not comfortable with her body. Her boyfriend Kirk was a very popular guy on the social seen and
she thought she was not able to fit in amongst his friends in public. Kim later decided that she is
going to do body enhancements on her upper and lower body having the intention that Kirk
would be more attracted towards her.

The prose outlines personal insecurities and the perceived satisfaction of body enhancement. The
climax occurred when Kim did her surgery but had a high level of uncertainty of how kirk would
have reacted. The targeted audience is intended to be young adults who suffer from insecurities
and self-acceptance and that they should not let fear or insecurity be a downfall towards them.

The researcher wrote the story with the objectives to inform the targeted audience of the
challenges young people face in everyday life because of society, to provide an understanding of
the consequences insecurity has on them whether it is positive or negative and finally to provide
inspiration and motivation to young persons who may be in a similar case.
