Social Justice
An area of Social Justice that I participated in was one of the first walkout students put
together after Trump’s presidential win. Students from all around Los Angeles, walked out of
school at a specific time, and met at City Hall later that same day. The walkout was justice for
student immigrants that don’t receive the same type of education “legal” students receive. The
walkout received lots of attention to the point where teachers and parents were supportive of the
students. Also, it was aired on live TV and shortly after, it was known as such a big issue school
wise. It was an issue for most schools because it wasn’t supported by some school board
members. Students were marked as truant when they were protesting against unfair decisions our
beloved president pleases to demand. Despite the consequences students would face, equal
education was prioritized that very day. The walk itself was very difficult, but I realized that the
struggles young immigrants face education wise are tougher than any walkout regarding the
issue. Students deserve equal education and shouldn’t be discriminated because of their race.
A historical movement that caught my attention the most in Social Justice was the
Freedom Riders movement. The Freedom Riders movement caught my attention the most
because they had many tactics and organizations that led to them to challenging segregation. The
Freedom Riders were successful because it impacted the start of the Civil Rights Movement.
Despite all the horrific and challenging obstacles the Freedom riders faced, not once did
they strike back with violence. The Freedom Riders not only rode in segregated buses but they
sat in segregated bars waiting to be served. The Freedom Riders movement connects with the
movements students are putting together to better Gun Control laws. Students from all around
not only have protested, but they’ve better their school security, united with each other, and have
been actively pursuing laws that hold parents responsible for their children's actions.
Movements from this era have evolved into many citizens creating different type of
organizations. From the Women’s progresa era, Ida B. Wells was an activist I looked into
deeply. Her tactics of publicicating unfair lynchings, inspired many African American to avoid
conversations about this issue publicly. The reason being, white citizens found it entertaining
and would feel no negative way towards the big issue. Her courage and bravery has inspired
