New summer camps

10
Summer camp is not only about horseriding, canoeing, scouting and campfires. Many
teenagers use their time in summer to learn new skills and test their creativity while having
fun. Some have a passion for cooking and want to participate in TV shows like Masterchef
or take cooking classes, others are interested in fashion and want to become designers and
there are others who want to know everything about science and go to science camps. Many
15
schools and organisations offer cooking, fashion or science summer camps for children aged
seven to eighteen. Let’s read about this inspiring teenager talking about her summer camp
experience.

“I’ve always wanted a career in fashion so I decided to look for a summer camp where
I could learn about this industry and have fun at the same time. I went online and found this
amazing fashion camp: Fashion Camp NYC, New York. I stayed there for one week and
I learned quite a lot about clothes, accessories and fashion shows. At the camp we also
started our own fashion brand and a fashion blog. We visited a fashion designer’s studio

and we interviewed models and a fashion magazine editor. We also visited some shops in
New York and took photos of people on the streets to learn about fashion styles. On the last
day we showed our designs at a fashion show for family and friends. This experience was
great and I think I’ll be a very good fashion designer in the future.”
