People PLF (Plant Load Factor) is the guiding philosophy behind the entire
gamut of the policies at NTPC .We are strongly committed to development and
growth of all our employees as individuals and not just as employees .We
currently employee 20600+ people at NTPC (including JVS and subsidiaries )
.Productivity in terms of man MW ratio has improved from 0.51 in 2016-17 to
0.44 in 2017-18.
Rewards and recognitions
We recognize the importance of rewards and recognitions to employees in
building the performance culture of the organization .To this end appreciation
through celebration of various achievements and recognizing the contributions
behind each success.
Knowledge management in NTPC
An IT enabled knowledge management system helps in capturing ,assimilating
and reteiving unstructured and structured knowledge in NTPC.
A reader to this document can give a feedback , ask a question on the
document or start a discussion . Thus not only a repository at knowledge-based
documents is being created but also fact knowledge sharing is being facilited
by the interactions.
Overhauls
Once in two years these units are stopped and overhauled , one unit at a time
.The overhauls are usually taken up during the months June to September as
the monsoons activate hydelpower generation which substitute the power
generation lost due to the overhaul at the unit .The same practise is fallowed
all through the country .The overhauls usually taken 15 to 20 days per unit
provided there is no major repair involved major repair include turbine casing ,
turbine rotor damage and other damages that require transporting the
equipment to another location (usually the manufacturer). The overhauls are
the dissiputors at the annual PLF of any power plant.
Staff
The plant is headed by the General manager (GM) to whom the AGM’s report
.The O&M group being reported by the additional General manager (O&M)
again to whom the AGMs of concerned departments report.
The AGMs are again reported to by the heads at various departments (DGM &
ever) and so on following the order below.

Employees
As at 31 march 2015 the company had 24067 employees .The attrition rate for
the financial year 2014-15 including the trainee employees and employees
working for subsidiaries and JV was 1.35% man MW ratio at the company has
fallen from 0.77 in the financial year 11 to 0.61 in financial year 15 .NTPC has
been awarded continuously as great places to work for in PSUs category.
NTPC was ranked 2nd among the 250 largest power producers and energy
traders in the world by plants in 2015.On overall basis NTPC ranked 56th amongst
plants 250 companies.
In 2009 it received ICSI National Award for excellence in corporate
Governance.
Departments
The plant classifies its departments as O&M and non-O&M.
Departments under O&M
Operation
The operation department has the maximum number at employees .It takes
care of operation of the various equipments and controls in the plant .The
operation department takes care of the unit control rooms (UCBs). A power
plant operations 24*7 so, the operation department work in the shifts to take
care of the units at all times.
Electrical Maintenance
This is the largest department under the maintenance section. This
department takes care of all the electrical aspects at the plant .It takes
care at the following sections.
 Swichyard
 Generator
 Generator Transformer
 Conveyor motor and the other motor
 The power transmission
Civil Maintenance
Civil maintenance takes care of all the civil activities in the plant such as non-
mechanical constructions , maintenance, at the locations , scrap removal and
ensuring a proper working condition of minor equipments .
CHP (Coal Handling Plant)
This department takes care at all coal handling processes.
