Health care is almost always a forefront

was a consultation over the summer, which
Horne was asked to lead. The consultation
Page 5 was looking at the different components of
the Alberta health act and that legislation is
coming forward in the fall.
“Basically its an overarching act that
would guide future decision about health
care in Alberta. It’s got some principles
that are part of it, and a patient charter and
some changes to the way we do consulta-

said Horne.

insurance act.
“In the case of Alberta we have over 30
Page 17 acts and 100 regulations that (are covered)
in the health care system,” said Horne.
Basically the orientation of the law is not
about meeting the needs of the people but
is oriented towards institutions, funders
and health care providers, which can create
some barriers.
Right now in our legislation if someone

Awards, lots of door prizes and dancing. A big round of “thank you” goes to all the many volunteers who
made the Awards night and all the events throughout the year go so well. The winners for this year are as
