Theme Exploration Planning Sheet

This document discusses using theme in artwork and provides resources for exploring themes. It encourages the reader to identify a theme that inspires them using the Smithsonian Museums Guide to Theme in Artwork. The reader is then instructed to create a folder with at least 20 images that could help inspire their final multiplicity artwork project. Their artwork will need to demonstrate an understanding of theme, discuss how their work reflects their chosen theme, and discuss their creative process and inspiration using Photoshop skills to create a strong final concept piece.

Multiplicity Visual Research

As much fun as cloning ourselves is (and it is!) this exercise gives us the ability to introduce
theme into your work. When we learn about theme in artwork, we have to be aware that artwork
can have multiple themes but leads to artwork that is personal and more meaningful.

Theme in artwork allows us to explore our own backgrounds, have a view on current topics and
express feelings about a topic that is important to us.

We will be using the Smithsonian Museums Guide to Theme in Artwork

Use http://americanexperience.si.edu/themes/

#1.) Click through the linked themes. Allow yourself to go down the rabbit hole!

Is there a theme that you can identify with right away?

Is there something that inspires you?
Is there something that angers you?
Is there something that gets you thinking in a new direction?

Use the Smithsonians Museums to further your inquiry and inspiration:

REMEMBER: Imitation in not flattery, transformation is!

#3.) Put AT LEAST 20 images in it that inspire you and could possibly help you on your
summative Multiplicity.

Ultimately your artwork MUST:

#1.) You can demonstrate what theme in artwork is

#2.) You can discuss your artwork and how it reflects your theme
#3.) You can discuss your process of your artwork and how you were inspired
#4.) You can use the technical skills of photoshop
#5.) You can demonstrate a strong concept in your finished work
#5.) You can print a physical product of your work (Per Mrs. Fitz)
