Rules for the Memorial Submission & Argument

[For Moot Court Competition]

1. Allocation of Problems

Two problems have been framed for the Moot Court Competition and have been allocated to the
respective Sections (2 in each). The students of the corresponding section shall be adjudged on
the basis of their memorials submitted for respective problems and the Oral Argument Round.

2. Election of Sides

Each student shall be adjudged on the basis of Written Submissions and Argument Skills. There
shall be system of teams and each team shall submit the Memorial for given Moot Problem for
the side allocated to it and the students-member of the team shall get equal marks for their
performance. The marks for Argument Skills will be given on individual basis as per the
performance in Oral Argument Round.

3. Rules for the Memorial

3.1 Every memorial shall have a statement of facts, issues, summary of arguments, jurisdiction,
arguments advanced and prayers besides a record of authorities.

3.2 The referencing procedure must be the Harvard Blue Book style of the latest edition.

3.3 The page range for the arguments advanced is between3-8.

3.4 The maximum page limit for the memorial is 20 pages.

3.5 Each team shall have to submit soft copy (for allocated side) of the memorial on the e mail

3.6 The students are required to use Blue Colour paper for the
Petitioner/Applicant/Appellant/Accused and Red Colour paper for the
Respondent/Defendant/Prosecution as the case may be for the cover page of the Memorials.

4. Memorial Submission

4.1 The last date for memorial submission is 5th of April, 2019 till 5:00 PM. (Already notified)
The teams can submit the Memorials before the last date also.

4.2 While submitting the memorial, teams must ensure that on the cover page the team codes and
name of the parties is mentioned correctly.

5. Exchange of Memorials

5.1 The Memorials may be exchanged by the students themselves on the basis of their
opponents’ list which is attached with this mail, just after the memo submission in soft copies to
the undersigned.

5.2 Any one member of the team may receive the memorial of the opponent as well as hand over
the memo of his or her team to the any member of opponent’s team.

6. Oral Argument Round

6.1 The Oral Argument Round shall be held on 7th of April, 2019 in the Moot Court Hall of the
University.

6.2 Generally 3 Minutes will be given to each speaker. Judges may extend the time as per their
discretion.

6.3 There will be 2 Speakers for the team.

6.4 The Researchers for the teams will be enquired at the same time orally to adjudge their
performance. No written test will be conducted for them.

6.5 The teams comprising of 4 members will have 2 Researchers and both of them will be
enquired.

6.6 The teams are bound to appear before the Moot Court, strictly in the Order of their Mooting
for the respective moot- problem.

7. Formatting Style

7.1 The memorial must be typed on standard A4 size paper.

7.2 The font & size of the text of all parts of the memorial (excluding footnotes) must be in
Times New Roman12 font size. The text of all parts of each memorial must have a line spacing
of 1.5 with one inch margin on both sides.

7.3 The text of footnotes shall be single spaced. The font size of footnotes must be in Times New
Roman 10 font size.
