Dear Parents,

Welcome into our new school year! I am Ms. Fitzgerald and I will be your child’s special
education teacher for this upcoming school year. Words simply cannot describe how excited I
am to be able to work so closely with this group of kids. I want to take this time to tell you a little
more about me.
This will be my first official year in my very own classroom. I graduated in December of
2019 with a Bachelor’s Degree in K-12 Special Education and K-8 Elementary Education. This
past semester, I’ve spent time subbing in school districts until I was able to find a job opening
this summer. Other than school, I really enjoy the outdoors! Hiking, fishing, camping, and
running are what I like to do in my down time.
As far as my classroom goes, I like to keep things as structured as possible so the kids
know what to expect. Having a consistent schedule is really helpful for our students to make
sure they are successful! In the morning we will start with whole class “Social Group”. During
this time, we will discuss expected and unexpected behaviors, social norms, self-regulation, and
more. This group is just there to help the students learn strategies to help cope with their
feelings during escalated times. As the year goes on, I will send out some of the things we are
talking about in class so you can also use it at home.
Throughout the day, the kids will be in both general education classes and our resource
classroom. These groups will look differently for different kids because not everyone has the
same needs. The groups might be a couple kids big or it might just be a one-on-one time with a
para/teacher support. If you have individual questions or concerns about the groups that your
student is pulled for, you can ask me directly or review their IEP to see what areas they need
specially designed instruction (SDI) for.
The easiest way to communicate with me throughout the day is Classdojo. It is a very
easy tool to use and you can download the app on your phone! On Classdojo, you can send me
private messages about your child that you think I might need to know, ask me questions, and
anything else that you need to communicate. I will also post pictures of the students in our
activities throughout the day. If Classdojo isn’t something you see working, you can always
email me.
Thank you for taking your time to read this letter. I just wanted to reach out before school
started and share how excited I am to begin this journey with each of you and your students. I
am looking forward to meeting each and everyone of you!

In education,
Reanna Fitzgerald
