Term 1 Week 10

Today we welcomed Kingi Biddle as our Duffy Role Model. Lorcan and Tewaiarani were our wonderful leaders
today showing great initiative and responsibility. The message from Kingi was about INFORMATION and
IMAGINATION - which books are full of. Enjoy your new Duffy Books.
Hi everyone,
Here we are at the end of term one and what a term it has been. As a small school we really do make the most of
every opportunity we possibly can. One focus for this term has been our Connect Crews, and we would like to
thank the members of our community for their knowledge and expertise in running these groups. Claire
Honeyfield and Soni Kennely, Dean Sorensen, Phil Crawford and Andrew Hurley, and our staff - Bianca, Jo and
Bronwyn.

Whenuakura AgriKids
We are excited to host our first AgriKids competition
tomorrow. Remember to dress up in your best farming
themed costume/outfit.

Wai O Turi Marae Visit

We will meeting at Wai o Turi marae at 9.15am on

normal classes that day. Please ensure children are in

reflection and evaluation. Please note that on Thursday,
there will be no normal classes from 12 noon as per the

and a gear list. If you haven’t received this or returned

ANZAC Day - Thursday 25th April

Once again, our school will be laying a wreath at the
Patea Dawn Service. We welcome all of our students to
represent Whenuakura School. Please wear tidy, correct
uniform and meet under the waka.

Cull Cows
Once again our local community has been so supportive of Whenuakura School by donating a cull cow. We
would like to thank most sincerely the following farmers for this generous donation.
Scott & Alex Newland, Conna & Nick Smith, Andrew & Alison Hurley, Joe & Kelly Crawford, Al & Alva
Honeyfield, Craig & Marichen Honeyfield, Ross & Kate Williams.
If you would still like to donate please contact Josh Sandford, ph 027 471 5042 or Nigel Corbett, ph 027 453

Board of Trustees Elections

The Board elections are looming! Please give some thought to putting yourself forward to be a Board of Trustee
member. This is a great way to understand the governance of the school and be more involved with your school
and child's education.

Impetigo
Some cases of this (school sores) are still presenting around the community. Can you please be extra careful with
any scratches, wounds or rashes. This is extremely contagious and diligent hand washing is most necessary.
Please see your Dr if you suspect anything.
Family Donations / Town Bus
Many thanks to those who have already contributed their family donation. This is much appreciated. For the
town bus students, can you please pay your bus payments before the end of term.

Impact Team
Our Impact Team has been busy after our initial meeting held at the Patea
Library. Roles and responsibilities have been assigned and they have some
different projects on the go. Our worm farm is now up and running, we have
leaders on Dojo Duty promoting CORE values in the playground and they have a
series of workshops they will be facilitating at lunchtimes next term.
Thank you John Smailes for working with our Green Team and setting up our
worm farm.

Sports
In the past two weeks we have participated in Netball lessons with Netball
Taranaki, the Southern Shield League Tournament, Waverley Cricket Tournament and the Weetbix Tryathlon.
Thank you to everyone who has helped coach.
Hockey
Are you interested in playing Funsticks Hockey in Waverley during term 2 or Wednesday Hockey Competition for
Border Junior Hockey in Whanganui? Please fill out the form on the Waverley Border Junior Hockey Facebook
page or see Mrs Ferris if you need more information. Registrations for the Whanganui Competition will be due in
the holidays so we will need names asap.
