WOULD RATHER
“Would rather” berarti sama dengan “prefer” tetapi grammar berbeda. “Would rather” harus diikuti
verb, tetapi prefer bisa diikuti verb atau bukan.
Venna would rather eat pizza than gado-gado.
Venna prefers eating pizza to eating gado-gado or Venna prefers pizza to gado-gado.
Catatan : “would rather” diikuti “than” ketika dua hal disebutkan, tetapi ”prefer” diikuti “to”.
Terdapat aturan yang berbeda untuk would rather tergantung jumlah subjek dan arti kalimat.
Present
Subject + would rather + (verb in simple form) …..

E.g. : Becky would rather go to aerobic class everyday than onece a week.
Past
Subject + would rather + have + (V III)…..

E.g. : Becky would rather have gone to aerobic class yesterday than today.
“Would rather that”, ketika digunakan dengan 2 subjek pada waktu present, bisa diikuti oleh kata kerja
bentuk I atau bentuk II (lampau). Diikuti bentuk lampau jika artinya pengadaian, yaitu bertentangan
dengan fakta seperti aturan dalam conditional sentences (kalimat pengadaian) dan verb “wish”

rules in conditional sentences (verb sentences) and verb "wish".
