Essential Oils and Elemental

Correspondences Earth Fire Water Air

The Science:

Essential Oils are volatile, meaning that their atoms interact with the world around them.
They also have energetic signatures that can influence healing, emotional response and
memory by triggering electrical impulses to the olfactory lightbulb in the brain. { These tiny
scents are powerful at invoking a sense of well-being, and they communicate with parts of our
brain.} And therein may lie their magic.

The Magic

Oils are powerful allies when we are doing healing work, intuitive / creative work, or
anything that involves the senses and emotions.

{ie: If you need to accomplish anything human, oils are good to have in your toolkit.}

I have recently started looking at essential oils not only for their own healing properties, but
also as they fit into the broader holistic story of the elementals.

The Basics of Elementals

Let’s look at the basics of the elements first, before breaking the full Essential Oil (EO) list
out into the elements.

AIR is associated with the East, the Spring, thinking, the logical and analytical and Carl
Jung’s thinking type of personality. The elemental spirit is the sylph, and the Celtic animal is
the eagle.

WATER with the West, the emotions, intuition and Jung’s feeling type of personality. The
elemental spirit is the undine, and the Celtic animal is the salmon.

FIRE is the South, passion, creativity, the Summer and the spirit and and Jung’s intuiting type
of personality. The spirit is the salamander, and the Celtic animal is the stag.

EARTH is the North, the winter, the material/ physical world and Jung’s sensing personality.
The elemental spirit is the gnome and the Celtic animal is the bear.

These elements interplay with each other every day in nature, and they often balance or attract
one another. Fire is countered by water, but fire zodiac signs are usually attracted to earth
signs. Air and Water are a good match for dating, but water (hydration) is often desperately
needed when we are burning with a fever – this balance and ebb of flow of elements is present
in your life in every situation and at every meal.

And we can use essential oils that correspond to the different elements to shape and manifest
where we are going, what we are attracting and how we feel. Here is my ongoing list of oils
and their correspondences. It is ongoing, and if you have any suggestions to add, please leave
a comment!
