WWI Propaganda Poster

Which is the most persuasive according to you and why?

During the First World War, a bulk of poetry

about the war, either encouraging people to
enlist or talking about the reality of war and
how much the game had changed. Numerous
posters were available for all to see on the
streets and they were all there to encourage
people to sign up for the war and fight to
save their country. These posters used a
number of persuasive as well as rhetorical
devices to encourage people to enlist in the
army.

According to me this is the poster, out of the

ones that I have seen, that is the most
persuasive and would have been the one over
which I would have pondered over the most
while taking a stroll in the street through
th
early 20 Century London. This has several reasons to it-

First of all there is the element of the man in the photo being the face of the
Army, also the fact that he is wearing the uniform.

He is also pointing directly at whoever is looking and it gives you that personal
feel about it as well as the fact that it says that ‘your country wants YOU.

It is encouraging you to join your countries army it is not telling you anything
more of a personal request.
