D-day Topic Justification 

D-day is important to me because I not only have a very strong interest in war but I also

am intrigued by how certain battles such as D-day shaped our country into the strong,

independent powerhouse it is today. Being raised in a family where both of my grandpas served

in the military (Vietnam War), and my great-grandpa served in WW2 as a lieutenant, definitely

helped spark this interest. Whether it was the countless stories at family Thanksgivings or

Christmas’s, the wise knowledge they shared impacted my significantly and was a huge factor in

tha sparked interest of War. Talked to the generations of granpas makew you realize how lucky

and greatful you sould be for the freedom and life that our generation is living in today. You

have the freedom to do whatever you want and have the ability to pick your futrure, where back

in the days of the World Wars many young men such as my great grandfather were born into war

life and got drafted into the war; His future was picked out for him.

For my primary reasearch, I am going to interview my great grandfather about WW2

such as what he experianced, signifcant memories of the War, and his position and job he had in

the war as well. Also I will include actual photots of him stationed in the war which will provide

a significat imagery insight on life in the war. Additionally I will also be interviewing both of my

first granpas becasue both served in Vietnam which will also provide valuable information on the

War and life in it. My strength on my topic will without a doubt be my access to 3 primary
reasources via interviews. Although I do feel like one of my weaknesses wll be the size of my

topic (D-day) and having to narrow it down and focus on a key event wtithin.

Additionally another factor in my selection for my topic is my interest in War and shooter

video games and my interst in the history of the shaping of our country. In my free time I often

play shooter video games such as Call of Duty and Pub-g, which simulate realisitc war events

and movements. Becaue I have been playing games like these for over 10 years it is a significant

factor in the reason I love the history and action of war. Secondly, I have always been intrigued

in the history of how our country is the way it is today, and how wars, battles, and conflict have

aided in the shaping of our country. U.S hisotry in 10th grade was without a doubt an all-time

favorite class of mine because we went into depth about every significant war the U.S was

involved in such as the Revolutionary War, WW1, WW2, etc…… You combine these two

factors I was destined to pick a topic such as WW2 for this project.

What I hope to accompish and find through researching this topic of WW2 is how it

affected the people of the Untied States, and especially how it affect the people in the war such

as my generation of granpas. The hisotry of the Untied States is both inspirational and ugly at

many times and at the conclusion of this topic I hope to give my adience a clear picture of that.
