There are 80 different types of chameleons in the world, most of which are to
be found in Africa, south of Sahara desert. The common chameleon ranges from the
Middle East, along the North African coasts to southern Spain.
The chameleon is a slow-moving lizard which hunts for insects among trees
and undergrowth. One of its peculiar features is its eyes, which are set in two conical
sockets and can move independently of one another. This enables the chameleon to
look behind with one eye and in front with the other.
Chameleon is well-known for their ability to camouflage. The skin and the
body markings can change color to match the surrounding. Among the plants and the
leaves, for example, it is very difficult to see.
Chameleon will travel all day long to hunt an insect. When it spots a
grasshopper, butterfly or caterpillar, it shoots out a long, sticky tongue and draws it
back into its mouth.

Lightning is a powerful burst of electricity that happens very quickly during a
thunderstorm. Lightning is caused by an electrical charge in the atmosphere that is
unbalanced. The movement of rain and ice inside a thundercloud creates an electrical
charge, with the negative charge (electrons) forming at the bottom of the cloud and the
positive charge (protons) forming at the top. Opposites attract so the negative charge at
the bottom of the cloud seeks out a positive charge to connect with.
Lightning is usually produced by cumulonimbus clouds that are very tall and
dense. Lightning can occur inside clouds, between clouds and from clouds to the
ground. Around one quarter of lightning is from cloud to ground. There are bolts of
lightning striking somewhere on Earth every second. Most lightning occurs over land
rather than oceans, with around 70% of it occurring in the Tropics. Lightning strikes
usually last around 1 or 2 microseconds. Lightning contains millions of volts of electricity.
The average temperature of lightning is around 20000 °C (36000 °F).
When lightning strikes the ground it seeks out the shortest route to something
with a positive charge, this might be a tree, a tall building or if they’re very unlucky, a
person. Thousands of people are struck by lightning every year. Direct lightning strikes
are usually fatal. Lightning rods (conductors) are metal rods or similar objects that divert
8

lightning safely to the ground, they can often be seen at the top of tall buildings.
Thunder is the sound caused by lightning. Lightning can also occur during
volcanic eruptions, dust storms, snow storms, forest fires and tornadoes. The study of
lightning is known as fulminology while astraphobia is the fear of thunder and lightning.

Tanah Lot means "Land (in the) Sea" in the Balinese language. Located
in Tabanan, about 20 kilometres (12 miles) from Denpasar, the temple sits on a large
offshore rock which has been shaped continuously over the years by the ocean tide.
Tanah Lot is claimed to be the work of the 16th-century Dang Hyang Nirartha. It
was built and has been a part of Balinese mythology for centuries. The temple is one
of seven sea temples around the Balinese coast. Each of the sea temples was
established within eyesight of the next to form a chain along the south-western coast. In
addition to Balinese mythology, the temple was significantly influenced by Hinduism. At
the base of the rocky island, venomous sea snakes are believed to guard the temple
from evil spirits and intruders. The temple is purportedly protected by a giant snake,
which was created from Nirartha's selendang (sash) when he established the island.
In 1980, the temple's rock face was starting to crumble and the area around and
inside the temple started to become dangerous. Then the government conserved the
historic temple and other significant locations around Bali. As a result, over one third of
Tanah Lot's "rock" is actually cleverly disguised artificial rock created during the
Japanese-funded and supervised renovation and stabilization program.
Entrance tickets cost 20,000 Rupiah for locals (Rp 15,000 for children), but
foreigners have to pay three times the price, or Rp 60,000 (Rp 30,000 for children). To
reach the temple, visitors must walk through a set of Balinese market-format souvenir
shops which cover each side of the path down to the sea. On the mainland clifftop,
restaurants have also been provided for tourists.

began to cycle faster. The sound came nearer and nearer. Then I heard a familiar voice
calling me. I looked back and saw Andi, my classmate. He had also seen the movie and
was frightened too. He had cycled after me so that he would not be alone. Both of us

A long time ago there was a farmer walking along a lonely path when he met a
giant. When the giant saw the farmer, he cried out like thunder: “Hey you! Know that no
one can escape from me so don’t even try and get ready for me to eat you!”
The farmer was so scared but steeled his courage. “I have heard a lot about you,
I know that I can’t escape so I’m prepared for you to do what ever you wish. But, before
you eat me I ask you to listen to my request,” the farmer said. “Speak then!” The giant
thundered. “Well, people say that you can turn into anything you want,” the farmer said.
“But I’ve always had trouble believing this and would like to see if it’s true before I die.”
“Very well, what shall I turn into?” the giant allowed. “How about a giant cedar
tree?” the farmer asked and a moment later the giant turned into the largest cedar ever
seen. “Wow! That is very impressive,” the farmer told the giant admiringly.
“Now you’ve seen my power as you requested so I should eat you now!” the
giant said. “Perhaps you could turn into a stone first,” the farmer told the giant again.
“Very well,” he allowed and a moment later he had turned into the largest rock, so huge
he was almost as big as a mountain. The farmer looked up to the sky to the tippy top of
the rock to admire what the giant had done.
“It doesn’t seem so impressive to have grown larger,” the farmer said. “Would it
be possible to become something tiny, for example a small bean in my hand?” the
farmer asked the giant. “That’s very easy!” the giant said and a moment later he was a
tiny bean in the farmer’s hand. The he then popped it into his mouth and bit down hard

Once upon a time, there was a poor little boy came into a little village. He was
very hungry and weak. He knocked at every door and asked for some food, but nobody
cared about him.
Then, an old woman helped him. She gave him shelter and a meal. When the
boy wanted to leave, this old woman gave him a big wooden mortar for pounding rice.
She reminded him, “Please remember, if there is a flood you must save yourself. Use
this as a boat.”
The boy was happy and thanked the old woman. He continued his journey. While
he was passing through the village, he saw many people gathering on the field. The boy
came closer and saw a stick stuck in the ground. People challenged each other to pull
out that stick. Everybody tried, but nobody succeeded. “Can I try?” asked the little boy.
The crowd laughed mockingly. The boy wanted to try his luck so he stepped forward and
pulled out the stick. He could do it very easily. Everybody was dumbfounded.
Suddenly, from the hole left by stick, water spouted out. It did not stop until it
flooded the village. And no one was safe from the flood except the little boy and the

Last Sunday we went to the museum with my classmates. We went to the train
station and caught the 8 o’clock train. When we got off the train it started to rain.
First we met our museum guide. He took us into the dinosaur exhibition. They
were only artificial dinosaurs but they could move as if they were alive. It was awesome
since they could shock and frighten the visitors. Next Mr. Ibrahim took us the game zone.
We played Hidden Tombs. It was easy. All we had to do was to follow the clues to get
through the pyramid maze. I found the first tomb. After that we went into a room to have
our lunch while watching a video about mummy. Mrs. Aziz gave us a worksheet to
complete. After finishing the task we went to the Mummy Room. I felt like we were in the
movie.
We really loved going to the museum. It was the best excursion I had ever.
