The Prodigal Son

Prodigal /ˈprɒdɪɡ(ə)l/ (Adj.)

“Spending money or using resources freely and recklessly; wastefully extravagant.”
"Prodigal habits die hard."

There was a father with two sons named Andre and Carlos. Both sons of the
richest family in town. They have lots of businesses, and they also have their own
townhouse and a private plane. They always have the things that they need, for short,
they have everything. But one is not like the other. Because of their wealth, Andre
became curious of living his own life without his father by his side.

Yule: Dad? Can you buy me a new car? Because the one you’ve bought has scratches
and dust all over it!

Father: Is that so? Well you can bring your it to the car wash to have it cleaned and
repaired. Learn to appreciate first what you have right now instead of buying a new one.

Yule: But Dad! It is so embarrassing especially if my friends find out that I’m rich but I
have a cheap car!

Father: It’s not cheap even if it has a few scratches on it, you hear me? and well, if
they’re your real friends they would understand, and even though we’re rich it doesn’t
mean we have everything, we also need to save for future use.

Mac Carlo: He has a point, we also need to save some money so that we can have a
better future.

Paris: And even though you’re the youngest doesn’t mean that you can have anything
you want!

Yule: Yeah right! (sarcastic)

Yule didn’t get what he wanted so he decided to go to his girlfriend’s house first
to clear his mind off of the argument.

Princess: Babe? What are you doing here? Isn’t it late?

Yule: Hi babe, sorry if I didn’t tell you that I’ll come here.

Princess: Is there any problem?

Yule: Yeah, Dad didn’t buy me a new car.

Princess: That’s it? What a funny reason you got there haha.

Yule: Why are you laughing? Didn’t you see that car? It has a lot of scratches and dust,
it looks so cheap now!

Princess: Babe? You know you can still use that. Just bring it to the car wash and let it
be cleaned and repaired. You don’t need to buy a new one, it’s just a waste of money.

Yule: Dad is that you? You just said what Dad said to me!

Princess: Well your dad is right because it IS just a waste of money and you also need
to save some for your future.

Yule: I thought you will help me on my problem! But you’re just like him and it’s
annoying!

Princess: Babe? Where are you going? Babe! (Yule walks out)

Because of his disappointment to his family and his girlfriend, Yule decided to go
to a club and have a drink, and there he met Catherine.

Dennise: Oh? Look who we have here! A newbie? Hi I’m Catherine and you are?

Yule: I’m Andre. (smug)

Dennise: Oh? Nice to meet you Andre! And aw… is there any problem?

Yule: My dad didn’t buy me a new car. I just wanted to have a new one so that I can use
it as an alternative, but he refused to give me what I want!

Dennise: Is that so? Well, you can get your money from your dad. And of course, you’re
his son so you also have a share on your business. When your Dad gives you the
money, or should I say your own money, you can buy whatever you want!

Yule: That’s a great idea! Thanks for the idea Catherine, and because of that, want to
be my girlfriend?

Dennise: I thought you had one already?

Yule: Well yeah, but I broke up with her because she was no help at all! She just went
to my father’s side!

Dennise: Really? That’s so bad! I promise I’d be a better girlfriend to you.

Yule: Thanks, let me just get my money and I’ll come back here to get you.
From there, Andre went to their house to talk to his father to give him his own
money.

Yule: Dad! Give me my share! And after that you will not see me staying at this house!

Father: What share? Isn’t it a bit too early for you to get your money and live by
yourself?

Yule: That is MY decision so please! Give me my money!

Paris: What are you doing Andre? Are you sure about that? You’ll go by yourself now?

Yule: Yes, and you don’t care if I want to! Give me the money Dad!

Father: Okay, fine! Here.

Yule: 1.5 million only?

Father: Yes, that is what I can only give you, but if you use it wisely, it can possibly grow
and be much higher.

Yule: I don’t care! I’ll get it and get out of here! From now on you won’t see me
anymore!

And so, Andre left the house and went on to live his own life, along with his new
girlfriend Catherine. But instead of using the money for his own business he used it for
drinking and gambling. He did try to invest his money to a business but it was revealed
to be a scam. And now they were bankrupt with all his money now gone. because of his
stupid decisions, he is now poor.

Yule: I don’t have money anymore Catherine, I don’t have anything to give to you. I’m
so sorry…

Dennise: What? We’re poor now? You don’t have money anymore? Sorry but I can’t
stay with you anymore.

Yule: You’re leaving me? Why Catherine? Please! Don’t go! You’re the only one I have
left!

Dennise: Stop it Andre! You don’t have money anymore so it means you can’t afford my
needs, which means we can’t stay together anymore!

Yule: So? You just love me because of my money? How dare you!
Dennise: (slap) Don’t you dare blame me for what happened! It’s all your fault! You’ve
wasted the money for gambling and drinking, and guess what? We’re broke! This is
goodbye for you, Andre.

Catherine left Andre because he can’t afford anything for her anymore. But
thankfully, he found a job in Shayne’s café as a janitor.

Roshayne: Andre! There is a mess here! clean it!

Yule: Yes ma’am.

Roshayne: Do you still know what your job is? You’re a janitor and your job is to
maintain the cleanliness in my shop, so do your job properly!

Yule: I’m very sorry ma’am.

Andre, with no experience of doing any sort of job before, has difficulty in
adjusting to this new life.

Roshayne: Andre! Clean the table! There’s a lot of papers scattered around, and I
already told you to wipe the spilled coffee on the counter over there!

Yule: Yes ma’am!

Because the situation was too much, he frantically tried to do everything that was
asked of him. Only to have the papers to be spilled on by the coffee

Roshayne: What have you done! These papers are important! These were for my
potential store chains to be built! I needed these for my meeting later! (very displeased
and angry noise/expression)

Yule: Ma’am I’m very sorry! I didn’t mean to— (gets cut off)

Roshayne: You’re fired Andre! I don’t want to see your face here ever again! I regret
taking any sort of pity for you back then… I was so patient… Go! Leave!

Yule: Ma’am! Please give me another chance!

Andre was fired from his job because of a grave mistake he has done. After a bit
of thinking, he realized his mistake decided to go back to his father’s house and
apologize to him. And his father, who always believed that he would come back, was
more than happy to see him again.

Father: My son! You’re back! I’m so glad that you’ve changed your mind and decided to
come back here again!
Yule: I’m very sorry Dad! I was wrong to leave you here and take your money to and
have my own life. I was so wrong on that stupid decision I made.

Paris: Glad to see you back, and at least you now know that you should always think
first before deciding on doing something.

Mac Carlo: Now you also learned that it’s hard to earn money especially if you can’t
handle it properly.

Princess: And now you also learned that the people who loves you will always be here
for you. I’m sorry for not being more understanding babe!

Yule: (Hug) I’m also sorry babe for not listening to you. I am thankful because you guys
still welcomed me back even though I turned my back on you.

Father: Then it is decided, let’s throw a welcome back party for my dear son!

Everyone cheers with genuine joy and relief to have Andre back home, and they
quickly prepare a grand party in celebration of his return. The night comes and they
enjoy their time, except for one…

Mac Carlo: I’m not impressed at all. Dad? What’s with this grandiose party? My brother
came back home and you welcomed him, even though he basically wasted 1.5 million
of your savings!
Father: Aren’t you glad that he’s back?
Mac Carlo: All these years I have been obedient to you. I never rebelled against you,
not once, yet you don’t praise me. And now your son, who was so disobedient, and has
wasted your money to live his life gets this?
Envious, the older son refuses to participate in the festivities. The father reminds
the older son that one day he will inherit everything, and that they should still celebrate
the return of the younger son because he was lost and is now found.
Father: You should understand, that we are celebrating the fact that he has realized his
mistake, and now has grown from it. Your brother has once lost his path, but now has
found it again.
(Everyone faces the audience)
Everyone: Each of us deserves a chance to redeem ourselves, we shouldn’t give up on
ourselves if we once failed. Because in the end, there are people who are willing to pull
us back up and welcome us with open arms and an open heart.
Let us not be deceived by the pleasures of wealth, because such things are temporary.
We should instead give importance to things like “Love and Graciousness”and
“Forgiveness and Redemption”.
