Science for the People

Good day all of you. Standing in front of you today gives me so much privilege as I was
tasked to deliver a great message that I hold dear inside my heart.

As an educator, I have seen and learn many things not just from the textbooks but more so
from my experiences and interactions with other educators, parents and most of you, our
dear students.

Allow me to turn back the hands of time as we travel back and remember some great
people of our world!

A man who lived around 384 BC was responsible for numerous contributions that included
but not limited to the classification of living things, contributions in Physics, influences in
the history of Psychology and advances in Meteorology. His name was Aristotle.

From a different generation there came someone who got inspired by the fall of an apple
from a tree that lead him to developed the theory of gravitation. Later on the Law of Motion
was further developed that has been one of the greatest discoveries of all time as it lead to
the advancement of our transport system, the design of rocket ships and many others.
Who was this person?—— He was Sir Isaac Newton.

As someone has been curious enough to find out why an apple fell from a tree became
responsible for the advancement of our time, there emerged someone who was bold and
courageous to stand up amidst failures. He was a great inventor and he claimed that his
greatness came because he was never afraid to try and try again. He failed not once..Not
twice..Not even thrice. He failed more than a thousand times before we can have
something that lights our houses. A person with a heart to do such thing was no other
than…. Thomas Edison

Then there was this man who was known to be such a genius simply because he loved
what he did. He was passionate to find out how things such as light can be of great
wonder. This lead him to be known as one of the greatest physicist of our time with such
great mind that lead to the discovery of the quantum theory of light, the brownian
movement, the theory of relativity and many other things. Such person who has never
failed to inspire us all is Albert Einstein.

Some of the most common things that these people experienced before they came to be
known as one the greatest inventors of all time were:

They were laughed at for their out of this world ideas

They have failed numerous times before naming their inventions a success
They were judged..they were mocked down..they were thought of as crazy..

Now imagine if these people did not persevere in their endeavours and passion. Imagine if
they backed down when they were told that were good for nothing or they were worthless.
Imagine if they stopped and never continued to discover what they have contributed.

We will not have the proper way of classifying living things.. It will be more difficult to study
these living things further..
We will not have the Law of Motions..Thus, our transport system will never be the same.

We will have no lights.. We will not understand how ordinary thing such as light can be of
real important to us.

We will not be able to experience all the ease of life we are experiencing now.

Let us look no further and take a look at how we communicate now. Before communication
was scarce. During the old days we use to exchange notes. It was really a struggle to have
a picture of our crush.

But now, everything else is just beyond the tips of your finger. It is just by with a click or
type that you can send messages..not just hearing the voice but even seeing the person
you are talking to. And most importantly, it is easier now to see the picture of your crush.
You just have to grab it! and Volia! it is saved in your phone and you can look at it anytime.
Just not during classes..

I can go on and on with all these foundations of our knowledge in Science and Technology
and their contributions to our lives and I can never run out of things to say.

But let us see what are these people who dedicated themselves in the arena of research
specially in the world of Science and Technology were trying to tell us.

For one, they have used their curiosity to make the world a better place. Their curiosity
was put in the right context as this was coupled with their own abilities. Never mind if they
were thought of us weirdos.. Never mind if they have failed. They kept on moving forward
and even it happened a very long time ago, we are all still benefiting from it.

The road for you to make our world a better place to live in has unfolded, our dear
students. You being in this part of your life right now, studying and learning all these basic
foundations of knowledge are equipping you and inspiring you to do great things in this
world. You are meant to discover your purpose..your passion..your dreams.. your visions.

Greatness lies within inside all of you as you are unique. You are meant to do great things.

We, as your mentors, coaches and facilitators, are here to remind you the greatness that
lies within each one you. Everyday whenever we start our classes, it is with great prayers
and hope that we see you be the best version of yourself someday.

This greatness that lies within yourself has a responsibility that you have to take and carry
on as you take the journey in your life. Such responsibility means that you have to use
such greatness in making the lives of our people better.

As you are being exposed to numerous information as it is easier now more than ever to
find answers in the world wide web, you have to understand that not all things that you
read out there are true.

You need to learn to be meticulous in the ideas that your will have to take. You have to
learn to discern and choose the right references. You have to be responsible in your own
learning as we can only do very limited things for all of you.
In order to know if the information you are taking in is of great value is that if it can
contribute to the lives of the people in a good and positive way. This is because there are
so many inventions today that have lead to the destructions of things as they were
misused and misunderstood like the invention of the nuclear weapons. Such weapons are
detrimental and could ruin many lives.

Therefore, I am standing in here in front of you today, asking you and reminding you to be
responsible in the use of your knowledge.. to be responsible in using your gift to bless the
world..to be responsible in choosing the right information.

Go and be courages in discovering things that can make our world a better place to live in.
Be responsible in seeking the answers. We are here to help.. We are to guide.. We are
here to cheer for you.. We are here to say “ you are great!” “ You are the best!” and our
world needs you! You can be our next Aristotle, or Isaac Newton..or Edison.. or Einstein..
