#40: Kabataang Aglipayano: Tunay Maka-Diyos, Maka-Bayan!...

(Eph. 2:10; 1 John 2:27; 1 Peter 2:9-10; Eph. 6:12)

RATIONALE
Ruby year. A defining term for something that has achieved 40 years in action. The red of the ruby brings
about the feeling of fervor and the drive to move forward. This being a sturdy gem, it also symbolizes the strength
of those who are involved. 40 years had passes since the first inception of the vision that the youth plays a
significant role in the formation of our ministry. 40 years ago, the founders of this organization here in the local
church of Iloilo envisioned a prosperous and ever-committed young people who, as the agile sector of the Church,
are in the frontlines in doing God’s works. After 40 years since that dream, we are here today. A proud beacon of
youthful servanthood holding fast to our orientations as the young people of the Lord for God and Country. But
going back, where does this fire in us started? From what objectives did these actions made manifest? Tracing the
roots of our existence as an organization, we are thrown back to the very first characteristics that define as apart
from others. Our movement as an aware youth anchored in these four definitive traits unique to each YIFI
member. The ruby year’s theme will enliven the sights and visions that the former young people [and still are] of
the Iglesia Filipina Independiente here in the Diocese of Iloilo. The phrase “Tunay maka-Diyos, Maka-bayan!” has
been, since time immemorial, a rallying call for the youth. With a ringing truth to it, we are called to be the living
and prophetic witnesses here on earth to be shepherds of the flock of Jesus.

BACKGROUND

#IamforHIM
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand
so that we would walk in them-Ephesians 2:10”

On being a Christian : by virtue of our baptism, we are commanded by God to love our fellow despite the
differences. Our Christian understanding and our defining faith move us to be
manifestations of God’s love here on earth. Our responsibility as workers with Christ gives
us the defining position to be the movers of truth and strength. We are created in the
image of God, thus we are tasked with walking in His stride for His people. The path
wherewith our actions must be anchored in is laid down by Jesus as a manifestation of
God the Parent to his people. His revelation to us through the Holy Gospels, them being
the testaments of Christ-like living, is a way for us to understand the concept of inclusivity,
extending our ministry to those who are outside the confines of our churches and faith.

#MayPaki-ALAM
“As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But
as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit—just as it has taught
you, remain in Him. – 1 John 2:27”

On being Progressive : the nurturance and development of the young people of the IFI is not confined within
the fundamentalist views of a medieval church, instead, it empowers young people to be
developed in their potentials and skills, recognizing the capacity of the YIFI to be greater.
Jesus recognized the meek, the oppressed and the down-trodden in his ministries. In
exemplifying Christ-like attitude, we rear the young people to be critical and open-
minded: allowing the influx of positivity and change, adapting them to the call of times
and as our responsibility asks it. We believe that geniuses lay within the minds of our
young people and that right encouragements unlock these potentials. The fundamental
part of the YIFI’s growth is based on the anointing of God’s people as the chosen ones
who will shepherd the sheep into the times ahead until His coming.

#ParaSaBayan
“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may
proclaim the excellences of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. Once you were not a
people, but now you are God's people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.- 1
Peter 2:9-10”

On being Nationalist : We are a Church born out of the desire of Filipinos to be free from bondage. A nation
where equality, equity and justice reign supreme is our goal. As a tangible result of the
Filipinos’ struggle for democracy, our core values And ideals distinctively emphasize the
nationalism and patriotic sense of our members: the love for country that we always
profess. God has seen our struggles as we were oppressed and He saw it fit to liberate His
people from modern colonialism and slavery. Our lover for freedom and independence
sparked the fire in us that ignited the fervor to be unbounded and chained. Forty years
had passed since our inception, and we are still in the struggles of identifying ourselves
with the nationalism that binds us as a Church. The YIFI as the future of the Church’
Ministries and Advocacies is tasked to inculcate, instill and empower the strong sense of
Christian ministry in a modern time--to promote welfare of the Filipino People amidst the
challenges of Faith and Commitment.

#Padayon
“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world
forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.-
Ephesians 6:12”

On being a Movement : as a Church whose history traces back to the times when the Filipinos were being
oppressed by foreign powers, we are called to stand up and be at the peak of the struggle
towards the fulfillment of shalom. Just and lasting peace can be only be achieved through
embodying the empathy that the Lord himself exemplified. Our actions towards the
realization of God’s promised land is rooted on the progressivism that Church leaders had
done years ago. The YIFI’s causes are adhered to the calls of the Church: promoting
awareness and issues on the advocacies tabooed by some peoples of faith. Social action
needs social awareness to push forward, thus, equipping the young people with the
necessary ideals is an integral part of our identity as YIFI Iloilo.

This year’s theme, “#40: Kabataang Aglipayano: Tunay Maka-Diyos, Maka-Bayan!... (Eph. 2:10; 1 John
2:27; 1 Peter 2:9-10; Eph. 6:12)” allows us to go back to our roots as a moving organization. It will re-equip us in
our understanding what and who we are in our ministry in the 40 years that we have flourished. The “…” in the
theme signifies our continuing efforts towards the fulfillment of our established goals and mission. Our visionary
selves that behind the common phrase, there is a much deeper, much rigid, and much work to do if we are truly
to embrace the principle embodied in the Pro Deo et Patria. This historical milestone in our quest for genuine
Shalom will be a testament of Commitment and as such, will be held and hosted by the Parish of St. Augustine of
Hippo, Dumangas, Iloilo this coming 21-27 of April, 2019.

Our youthful vigor and versatility will once again prosper and be used for his greater glory. Glorified be
God who is above and beyond all of us! YIFI at 40: a look back on our roots and a view deck on what lies ahead!

For the YIFI in Christ and remembrance,
