Preliminary geological descriptions of geological exploratory gallery in left bank

1. Geological descriptions:
(1) Sta. 0 m (Portal) ~ 30 m
Jointed grey tuff, Several open joints were found (due to blast or excavation), 2 sets of
major joints and 1 set of minor joints highly developed.
Rock Mass Class: Type IV ~ V.
(2) Sta. 30 m ~ 42 m
Jointed grey tuff, 2 sets of major joints and 1 set of minor joints moderately developed,
Slightly rough surface, Separation < 1 mm.
Rock Mass Class: Type III~ IV.
(3) Sta. 42 m ~ 63 m
Massive grey welded tuff, Joints poorly developed.
Rock Mass Class: Type II~ III.

2. Joint sets attitudes: Fig. 1


(1) J1: N80E/70S:
spacing 6-20cm, length 3-10m, separation <0.1mm, roughness smooth, infilling none.
(2) J2: N4W/66W:
spacing 6-20cm, length 3-10m, separation <0.1mm, roughness smooth, infilling none.
(3) j3: N48W/38E:
spacing 0.6-2m, length <1m, separation none, roughness slightly rough, infilling none.
