High school is just as often referred to as the best times of your life as it is the

worst. In some ways, your high school experience is what you make it. DHS students

share their suggestions for things that students should do, or at least attempt, before

they graduate.

1. Join a Sports Team

“Join a sports team. It’s really great because you have built-in friends and family.

Being a part of the soccer team is my favorite thing ever. We all become really close and

are like a giant family,” said Sr. Taylor Klone.

“One of my favorite high school experiences is my sports season, anywhere from

running on the trails up near the test tracks, to finishing 5k races, to even traveling with

the team. The majority of my best high school experiences have been from doing the

activities I love such as track, cross country and DECA. In these teams I have met some

lifelong friends, built reliable relationships with some extraordinary coaches and

traveled to some pretty cool places along the way,” said Jr. Ben Kelley.

2. Make New Friends

“Make a lot of new friends and branch out from the ones you’ve had all

throughout middle school,” said Sr. Taylor Klone.

“I realized that I got way more out of DHS then I expected. I wanted to meet

some life long friends [and] meet some pretty cool teachers,” said Jr. Ben Kelley.

3. Get Outside

“I really want to go camping for some reason. I want to go camping with a large

group of people by a lake, before I become a senior, or before I graduate. Camping is just

so free and dear to my heart,” said So. Lily Sturm.

“I plan on going camping a lot this summer, climbing a few fourteeners, going

backpacking and fishing my high school life.. I plan on doing a lot of activities with my

friends, a lot of overnight trips and a lot of activities outdoors in general,” said Jr. Ben

Kelley.

4. Attend Sports Games

“Attend at least one of every sports game put on by DHS, your friend might be

playing. It’s a great conversation starter for the next day and it’s a great way to watch

your peers do something that they love, as well as, it’s a great way to compliment the

person you like,” said Jr. Ben Kelley.

5. Support your School

“It's just important to do what you want to do to support your school; that doesn’t

necessarily have to be a dance, if you’re not really into that, if you’re into sports, you can

go to a football game, if you’re not into football, you can go to a basketball game, or you

can go to a play, but there’s lots of options here,” said So. Lily Sturm.

6. Go to School Dances
“Go to dances, even if you just go with your friends, you should definitely go to

homecoming,” said Fr. Mia Boughton.

“I would go to winter formal and homecoming during your freshman year, just to

say you did, and then you can decide on whether you wanna go again after that,” said Jr.

Ben Kelley.
