EDUC 280 - MODULE 8 Timecard and Journal Entries

You will submit this one Word document for grading into Blackboard (Bb). Do not submit anything else but this one Word document for grading into
Bb. All of the information you need to know is found on this one Word document.

In this assignment, you will find 3 tasks that need to be completed (and you will complete everything on this one Word document)

Task 1 – Timecard
Task 2 – Info/answers from Journal 2
Task 3 – Info/answers from Journal 3

Once you are done with this combined Word document, you will submit this ONE Word document in for grading.

This really is not a super hard module but be sure to get it in before the deadline so you can earn maximum credit.

Task 2. Journal 2
Do you think your teacher has successfully created a productive learning environment? Why or why not? (3rd Grade) Yes, she has successfully created
an environment that all students learn and want to learn. When students return from lunch recess, she sets the expectations that when returning from
recess they read with their partner that she chose for them. They will read out loud and take turns then after a couple of pages they talk to each other
about what they read, they become engaged and makes reading fun because they get to sit with a peer and have one-on-one interaction. When I was
observing I had the opportunity to sit with a couple of them and they told me what the book was about, they were so excited to talk about the book they
are reading and why they chose that book. After, they finished the book (which she gives them about ten minutes a day to read) they were able to switch
the book and chose one that they would like to read next. I enjoyed being in the class at that time it gave me experience with them and know what they
enjoy and why.

What techniques does the teacher use to keep students actively involved in academic activities? (2nd Grade) A technique that she used was when they
did the math. She had everyone go to the carpet in from of the board and have one student that was the helper that day sit on a high chair and be the
teacher. The student would read the instructions and the equation. Then, the student would call on students that raised their hands when they found the
solution to the equation. The student would choose the students that were the quietest and showed respect when the student was speaking. When the
student chose someone to say the answer, they would get up and sing a song with everyone and get a high five from everyone. This showed me that we
don’t need to be the teacher all the time, sometimes allowing a student to take the initiative allows them to understand the curriculum. Also, allowing
students to take charge shows respect towards the student because it shows them that they are capable of becoming a leader someday and work as a team
at the same time.

How is your teachers “withitness?” (3rd Grade) The teachers withitness was extremely good, and she always walked around making sure that everyone
was doing their work and if not, she would ask if they needed help. The students were aware that they couldn’t get away with messing around when the
instruction was happening.

What types of “punishments” are used in your classroom? (2nd Grade) The types of punishments were lunch detention, sitting on the wall during recess,
not iPad free time, moving their desk to sit alone, and writing a paper about why it’s not good to lie or hit another person, they had to write it directly to
the person they harmed or lied to for example.

How or where are the rules posted in your classroom? How were they created? By the students or the teacher? The rules were created by the school but
some from the teacher. They are nice and big where they can see them (tapped on the wall, when they come back from recess, they are able to see it
right in front of them).

(regarding curriculum) (4th Grade)

Give an example of when the teacher used integrated curriculum across subjects (i.e. combining science and language arts). (4th grade) The teacher
passed out an article about pandas that are close to extinction and spoke about the differences between now and years ago. This lesson plan was a
combination with history and language arts because there were words that had never heard of and history because the article spoke about what year they
4
declined in population till now. The students were shocked to read that there are not many pandas left on our plant and how us humans can help the
pandas from extinction.

Give an example of when the teacher used hidden curriculum. (4th grade) I think that when the teacher used the hidden curriculum was when he asks the
students to stand up and follow his stretching methods after taking a test or right before a test. He says that it helps relax your body and mind, then they
take deep breathes and exhale. This would be considered break time which is part of the hidden curriculum.

Does your teacher used differentiated instruction? (4th grade) Yes, the teacher used differentiated instruction because not all students learn the same and
understand that not all will understand it at the same time too. He provides options for some students such as research, either with books or magazines
and even a short video clip about the topic being discussed. This helps a diverse classroom prepare and understand the material, and he will adjust the
content to his/her academic level if needed. He accommodates those who may need more help than others.

Can you tell what kind of learner the teacher is from his/her instructional preferences? (2nd grade) The kind of learner that the 2nd-grade teacher was a
hands-on because she enjoyed interacting with students and dancing out math problems such a song that she used to say “great job” she had such joy
being with students one-on-one. She wanted to make that they understood the problem and had many different ways of teaching it.

Do you think the teacher adapts the curriculum to the types of learners in the classroom? (3rd grade) Yes, when it was reading time (they read for 10
min with a partner) she made sure that they had a book to read at their reading level and paired them up with another student that could help them if they
got stuck on a word, this allowed them to work together and not be afraid to ask for help. After they were finished, they grabbed their reading notebook
and write about the book and what it was about, the questions usually would come from the teacher, and they were specific questions to the reader.

Does your teacher like the curriculum he/she is teaching? (3rd grade) The curriculum that the teacher taught was simple and easy to follow. She seemed
to enjoy it because sometimes she would add her instruction and what she thought her students would benefit from rather than read straight out of the
text. She made it fun and easy to explain and follow for everyone.

What would they like to see added in the future? More help in a general education classroom, I feel that the teachers are only able to do so much and
there’s all this pressure for the teachers to get their students exactly where they should by the end of the year. Long shot, but I would love to see an extra
professional in a general education classroom.

Task 3. Journal 3
What kind of technology was used in the class(es) you observed? Was it effective? The type of technology that was used was iPad’s for testing the
students or reading. Yes, because it helps save paper for testing and gives them time to use such type of technology in school because every day
technology is growing and they should be exposed to it as long as they can, they also were able to use free time on it and watch videos on Epic (an app
that provides friendly games, videos, and books for students at school.

What type of technology might you use when you start your teaching career? I will you iPad’s as well because they can be used for different things and
different subjects such as in science. There is so much more accuracy with technology, allowing such will help students develop digital citizenship skills
in the classroom.

Do you think it is harder or easier to incorporate technology into your classroom? I think that it’s easier, however it needs to be used appropriately and
correctly so that students understand that technology can to be used in schools without disruption but for opportunities to learn new things in a
classroom setting.

How diverse was your class(es) you observed? 40/60. I was able to observe lots of diversity. I noticed that there were a lot of students that were
extremely intelligent and pay well attention to their teacher and interacted with each other.

What did your mentor/teacher do (or not do) to create a diverse classroom? He made sure everyone was included in any activity or discussion he was
having. I noticed that he would alternate from boys to girls when questions were being answered and spoken.
