Dear Mrs. Webb:

This letter is intended to incite a change and may need to be forwarded to the
Interior Design Department or any other department/person(s) that oversee(s)
the maintenance and upkeep of the branches and their furniture. I work at the
Cottonwood heights branch as a Consumer Loan Originator (CLO), I have been in
that position and location since the beginning of August 2018 and over a year as
a teller before that.

I am writing you this letter to petition the idea for new desks on the loan side at
the Cottonwood Heights Branch. There are a few reasons why I feel these new
desks are needed and I will go over these reasons in this letter. I would implore
you to read this letter and actually think of the possibility of updating this
furniture.

The current desks at the Cottonwood Heights branch have fallen into disrepair
and it is starting to show. The condition of the desks has been deteriorating for a
while now and the need for replacements is growing more apparent. The
current varnish that coats the desks has started to age with the desks and as a
result it is flaking and peeling off. Chunks of these varnish flakes will often peel
up and get mixed with documents while going over them with the members.

There have even been a few instances where younger children have tried to
ingest these smaller particles. These flakes are not only hazardous, they come
across unprofessional.

Replacing these desks will also bring an opportunity to bring the current style to
the more modern look that most of the America First branches are transitioning
to. These older desks don’t even match the current layout of the rest of the
building. Most of the wood in the branch has a reddish look or stain to it, while
the desks are white in color. A modern look would be able to make the branch
feel more unified, and new again.

The negative effects reach further than just the physical appearance though.
The design of these workstations has been known to cause strain on the
employees who use them. They are shorter than normal desks and this has
resulted in a few problems for the employees using them. The chairs given to
partner with the desks are too tall to fit into the desk, even at there shortest
setting. The arms of these chairs will not let them move under. This has caused
the employees to constantly be lean forward to use their computer. Some taller
employee’s legs will not fit under the desks as well, these individuals have to sit
with their legs at an angle or bent to even have them fit under the desk. This
discomfort is apparent and is seen by the members; some even get
uncomfortable watching the employee try to work under these conditions.

New desks could be implemented and bring about solutions to these problems.
New desks that matched the modern look that America First Credit Union is
going for, both in color and design. It would create a more comfortable
environment for the employees and a less hazardous one for members and their
children. For both parties involved the whole building itself would seem more
inviting. There have been many studies that have shown that the condition of a
work environment directly relates to the work output done. These employees
will feel valued and thus the retention rate will increase. People will try to fit the
roles they are given, and if they are made to feel important then they will try to
be important.

We are at a great time to consider this and act on a solution. We are at the
beginning of the year and so this new expenditure could be worked easily into a
new budget. It could be considered an investment that will be noticed by
anyone who visits the branch.

In conclusion, the choice to update the desks will make the atmosphere of the
branch more positive. This will be felt and noticed by both the employees and
the members who visit. The branch itself will begin to thrive as employee moral
grows and they don’t feel restricted in the way they react with their physical
work environment. This will increase work quality and will benefit the member,
the employee, and the Credit Union as a whole.

Sincerely,

John Perry
