SERVICE- LEARNIN G MEMORANDUM

TO: ANDREA MALOUF

FROM: JOHN PERRY

SUBJECT: ENGLISH 2100

DATE: 4/11/19

Before participating in the project I loved the feeling I got when I would find ways to
serve the community. I have always loved to know I was doing good by finding ways to
give back to my community. This instance helped give me that feeling that I loved as
well. I was able to help at the Homeless Youth Resource Center and the project went
well. We were able to help prepare lunch for the youth at the facility.

One of the difficulties of the project was putting it all together to fit with all the schedules
for each participant. We were able to schedule a day though and make it happen. One
thing that I would change though would be to have more involvement with the staff as the
project was being completed.

In comparison to other project that I have participated in this one was a success. I feel we
were able to help several through providing a meal. I am glad I was able to have the
opportunity to do so. If we all could learn to cultivate an attitude of care then there would
be no poverty. There would be no prejudice. There would only be growth.

If I were to change anything about participating in the service-learning assignment would

only look at changing the assignments themselves. I think there are too many assignments
attached to it. There is the Reflective Journal, The Memorandum / Letter, and the
presentation that all need to be done to get credit for the assignment. After completing
one the rest start to feel redundant.
