RATIONALE

This study ensures the acceptability of the modification of the electrical wiring

board. this study gives some insight for conventional modification of wiring tools and

equipment.

II. Related Literature

A. Design

According to (https://www.quora.com/Why-is-product-design-important)

A product is bought to be used. It has to satisfy certain criteria, not only

functional, but also psychological and aesthetic. Good design emphasizes the

usefulness of a product whilst disregarding anything that could possibly

detract from it.

The above-mentioned literature is interconnected with the present

study in a sense that, the modified electrical wiring board is expected not only

to become very functional but also to satisfy the expectations of the students
as well as the electrical technology teachers that this board will be more

advantageous than to a normal course of wiring board to meet the expected

usefulness of the product.

Accordingto(https://www.ukessays.com/essays/marketing/importance-

of-good-product-design-marketing-essay.php) very product that is

manufactured by any organization is suppose to have a distinguishing

physical characteristic which will make it attractive to customers, these

characteristic is known as a design. Product design therefore is all about

manufacturing a product that will attract the customer and also provide value

for them. Since the design of a product is the first impression a customer has

about a particular product there is therefore the need for organisations to

design products that meet and exceed the customer's expectations.

The above literature is related to the present study in a sense that in

order that the product can be used by the grade 9 electrical students they

must be hooked by the design of the electrical wiring board, because as a

student they are very fascinated by physical appearance of something that

can make them very eager to used it and to take care of it.

According to (https://www.quora.com/Why-is-product-design-

important) “Good design is innovative”, The possibilities for innovation are

not, by any means, exhausted. Technological development is always offering

new opportunities for innovative design. But innovative design always

develops in tandem with innovative technology, and can never be an end in

itself.
The aforementioned literature said that “Good design is Innovative”

innovation is also defined as advancement, there are a lot of opportunities or

rooms for improvement in order to make instructional materials in electrical

technology be more effective and useful, this research is one of innovative

strategies available to help the development of plain design of a electrical

wiring board which were in truth and in fact some of students are not enjoying

it when they are using it, it is also important to an instructional materials to be

attractive to the senses of the students in order to make them interested with

the activity and to gain more knowledge and for effective teaching and

learning outcome.

B. Durability

According to ( https://www.wood-database.com/wood-articles/wood-

durability/) When most people hear the word “durability” in relation to wood,

they immediately think of its ability to withstand dents and scrapes. However,

in this context it specifically refers to a wood’s ability to resist elemental and

natural forces of decay.

The contention of the above literature is that the word durability when it is

incorporated with a material (wood) it is expected by the people to have the

ability to withstand or resist elemental and natural forces of decay; blatantly

the wood, in certain circumstances, is susceptible of deterioration and what

we can do is to give more life to the wood in order to be more useful. In this

research the wood is used as a material for the creation of the electrical wiring

board because of its durability and the ability to withstand some

circumstances which may affect its durability, and also wood is a bad
conductor and in case of faulty electrical lines the students will be safe from

being electrocuted.

According to (https://www.thinkwood.com/performance/durability)

Durability is the ability of a building or any of its components to perform the

required functions in a service environment over time without unforeseen cost

for maintenance or repair.

The above literature is also related to the present research because

wood being the primary material in the construction of modified electrical

wiring board, aside from being cheap material, is durable and its cost of

repairs and maintenance, in case of unexpected damage, is very cheap and

affordable to make the wiring board be useful for a longer time.

According to (https://www.excelsior-ltd.co.uk/news/why-is-product-

durability-important/)No matter the product in question, durability is always a

key concern. As just a single aspect of the product manufacturing process, it

has a surprisingly wide reaching set of implications. This includes not just the

practical advantages it offers, but also the economical and environmental

benefits it provides too.

The above literature is in line with the present study, as stated above

“No matter the product in question, durability is always a key concern”. this

research is very eager of making the product or the electrical wiring board to

be more durable because as a state institution, there are limited funds which

are being appropriated for the schools’ instructional materials, and one way

of making materials more useful and numerous students can make use of it,

the instructional materials should be more durable than in a normal course of

materials because if the instructional materials for teaching is durable it is

more advantageous in order to meet the expectation of having a quality

education and it is economically accepted to used certain things to the fullest.

C. Functionality

According to ( functionality, but in reality both design and function work

together to produce a useful product. It is beneficial that the product is both

pleasing to the [consumer's] sensibility while fulfilling their need for the

product. This is a hard task for designers and engineers who sometimes

come at odds with these contrasting principles, which in the end is dictated by

cost effectiveness. It could be that the most cost effective product

compromises on aesthetics, or a beautiful product doesn't work effectively.

The above-mentioned literature is related to the present study in a

sense that the wiring board must be pleasing to the students sensibility and at

the same time it can give the functions they need in their wiring activities.

According to Journal of Marketing © 2003 American Marketing, The

authors investigate the effects of explicit comparisons in differentiating

innovations that offer new functionalities to the consumer. Although marketing

communications commonly employ explicit comparisons in launching new

product functionalities, the authors suggest that such comparisons are not

always helpful. The authors show that an explicit comparison of a new

functionality with an existing functionality is effective only when the new

functionality is offered in a device or physical product that is atypical of the

existing functionality. However, when the new functionality is offered in a

product that is typical of the existing functionality, explicit comparisons tend to

backfire because they merely facilitate the assimilation of the new functionality

to the prior functionality. The results of three studies provide significant

support for the predictions, and a fourth study demonstrates how the backfire

effect might be avoided. The authors discuss implications for communication

tactics, new product marketing, and consumer behavior theory.

The aforementioned literature is related to the present study in

consonance with that the modified electrical wiring board is offered to the

students to experience new and more convenient wiring activities which

where in truth and in fact improves the quality of their work.

(http://inclusive.com/mmr/findings/functions_and_features.htm) "It is

important to remember the distinction between product functions and product

features. Functions are the “product’s answer to the set of user tasks”;

features are the “user tools” inherent in the product used to perform the

functions (Wood, 1995). Placing a telephone call is a function; the dial tone

and the touch-tone keypad are features used to accomplish the function.

Product Types have different sets of functions, and each Model within a Type

accomplishes its functions through potentially different features."

The aforementioned literature is interconnected with the present study

because the wiring board or the product is the answer tot he set of the user’s

tasks, it is very important to note that the products should serve its purpose.
