COLLEGE-2
C-4, Dada Satram Mamtani Marg, Janakpuri, New Delhi, Delhi 110058
So, on wednesday dated 28th Feb, me and my team member Raja had gone to Bharti
college, DU, to get some information about the eco-friendly ways they use in order to have
a clean and green environment.
As we stepped in, Dr. Priyamwada, environment teacher of the college, provided us with
some useful information.
Bharti College has a eco club named “PALLASH".
The “PALLASH" was set up in 2004.
She told us that they put in practice the segregation of waste technique, where
canteen waste is separated from other types of waste and then the canteen waste is
given to an NGO, named "Life-in" for urban farming and to "Reno-tech" too, but the
recycle of paper waste is what they prefer.
Dr, made us aware of the rain-wqter harvesting technique. The college practices it from 15
years. Old building already has it, but efforts are being made to establish it in the new
building too.
We were showed the chamber by her, where the water collected from the droplets of rain
and how it is cleaned before and after the rain specifically.
Seminars, talks, forums, fest, quizzes, rally, nukkad natak are too organized by the
eco-club society there.
The college takes the students to various places to visit in order to make them aware
of some ecological surroundings.
They recently visited Aravalli Biodiversity Park and National Museum of
Environmental Studies.
This information was followed by the knowledge of four pits in the college.
Dr. Priyamwada made us aware that in the 1st pit, cow dung along with some dry leaves and
bio-degradable waste is collected, in the 2nd pit the compost is formed by the practice of
hands of gardeners and sometimes students, by watering it once in a week and when the
compost is all nourished and rich in all the necessary nutrients, it is stored, kept in pit 3 and
4. Some of the compost is transferred to various NGOs as well as this compost helps to
maintain the soil moisture content very well.

COWDUM
Various types of plants were also planted in the periphery of the college, they were
mainly the cabbage herbs and mostly vegetables shrubs.
Thus, the college could be referred to as the one with the maximum greenery in the
DU campuses, water too is clean and hygienic in washrooms and drink stands.
The teacher too is very keen about how the eco-club society should work and has been
putting her efforts to this beautiful intitative since last 7 years. For me and my team
member, it was a knowledgeable day as we get to know about things we aren't aware of
before.
