You are going to see images of five cities and their landmarks. Write a
paragraph describing each city and country it belongs and the landmark shown.
Use the vocabulary from the box for the descriptions. The first one is done for

New York is a big city in the

United States (North America). It
takes thousand of visitors every
year. The city has a population of
around 8 million people. There is
a lot to see and do in New York.
You can visit the Central Park,
the Metropolian museum and
Time’s Square. In the picture you
can see the Statue of Liberty, a
monumet built between 1875
and 1986. It is 93 meters tall.
The statue is located on Liberty
Island in the Hudson River.

Basilica in the Vatican City. The

Is a historic fortress which
dominates the skyline of the city of
edinburgh, scotland, from its
position on the castle rock.
Archarlogists hace stablished
human occupation of the rock since
at least the iron age (2nd century AD),
although the nature of the early
settlement is unclear.
There has been a royal castle on the
rock since at last the regin of david
in the 12th century, and the site
continued to be a royal residence
until 1633.
From the 15th century the castles
residential role declined, and by the
17th century it was principally used
as military barracks with a large
garrison.
Its importance as a part of scotlands
national heritage was recognised
increasingly from the early 19th
century onwards, and various
restoration programmes have been
carried out over the past century
and a half.
Know as Burj Dubai before its
inauguration, is a megatall
skyscraper in Dubai United Arab
emirates. It is the tallest structure in
the world, standindg at 829.8m(2,722
ft).(4)(9)
Costruction of the Burj Khalifa
began in 2004, with the exterior
completed in 2009. The primary
structure is reinforced concrete.
The buildnd was opened in 2010 as
part of a new development called
downtown Dubai. It is designed to
be the centerpiece of large-scale,
mixed-use development.
The decision to build the building is
reportedly bases on the
govemments decision to diversify
from an oil-based economy, and for
Dubai to again international
recognition.
