Gina Anisah Mujahidah Mani’u Rahman, 013.06.0022, 2017. The Comparison

of Cefadroxil And Cotrimoxazole Sensitivity Against Aerobic Germs Causes Of
Chronic Tonsillitis In ENT Departement of West Nusa Tenggara General Hospital
2017. Mini Thesis, Faculty of Medicine, Al-Azhar Islamic University, Mataram.
Introduction: Chronic tonsillitis is a condition of enlargement tonsil and
accompanied by repeated infections. Chronic tonsillitis is most commonly caused
by Gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus. Provision of broad-
spectrum antibiotics such as cefadroxil and cotrimoxazole is able to inhibit the
growth of aerobic germs that cause chronic tonsillitis.
Objective: The main objective of this study is to determaine the comparison of
cefadroxil and cotrimoxazole sensitivity against aerobic germs causes of chronic
tonsillitis in ENT Departement of West Nusa Tenggara General Hospital 2017.
Methods: The design of this study is observation study with cross sectional
approach. Forty-nine people with chronic tonsillitis had a throat swab. The
sensitivity test was examined by dilution methods for cefadroxil and
cotrimoxazole antibiotics. The result of the study was analyzed by Chi Square
(X2) test with a significance level of p value <0.05.

Result: The 49 chronic tonsillitis patients who had throat swab, the most common
cause of chronic tonsillitis was Staphylococcus aureus 33 isolates (67.35%).
Sensitivity cotrimoxazole 32 isolat (65,3%) with an inhibitory zone 28 mm and
sensitivity cefadroxil 13 isolates (34,7%) with an inhibitory zone 20 mm.
Cotrimoxazole is more sensitive than cefadroxil. (p<0,05)
Conclusion: Cotrimoxazole was more sensitive to aerobic germs that cause
chronic tonsillitis.
Key word: Chronic tonsillitis, Cefadroxil, Cotrimoxazole.
