2.2 Functionality of ATM and Online Banking
Nepal Investment Bank Ltd. (NIBL) has its ATM services in different area especially in urban
areas. Firstly, it is necessary to open bank account in this bank and request for ATM service. One
of the main themes to provide ATM service is to make clients easier and efficient to withdraw cash
using their debit or credit cards from anywhere in any time. The service provided by ATM is done
through computer system and upgrading latest technology. The automated teller machine (ATM)
mainly functions as input and output which are mentioned below:

 Input Devices:

There are two input devices in ATM:

i. Card reader

It is an input device which reads the account information stored on the magnetic stripe on the back
of an ATM, credit or debit cards when it is swiped.

After card is read by card reader, machine asks for personal identification number (PIN) for
verification. It is done for the security reasons to be secure like from theft and sabotage. After
entering PIN it will display further details for transaction or for other services like (balance inquiry,
cash withdrawal, pin change, cheque book request, mobile/phone bill payment etc.).

 Output devices

ATM has four output devices:

2.3 Enhancement
With the passage of time, computing and IT is being more reliable and use in every sector of
organizations. It is needed to upgrade both software and hardware to function any task smoothly
in a computer. When we visited to branch of Nepal Investment bank which is located at
Suryabinayak, Bhaktapur, Nepal, we found that they have been using latest technologies to make
more reliable in their services to the customers. They have been providing ATM, online banking,
etc. services to the clients. ATM and online banking remain all the time open for service to
customers. These services helps to save the time and money of account holders.

Although, there is still some functions are missing in ATM and online banking services. Like:

 There is no any system developed to ask for costumer care while issues and problems seen at
the time of using service from ATM and online banking.
 There is no use of biometric security in both services.

If there will be function to make free call through ATM, it will be useful and helpful at the time
when card holders suffer from issues and problems in ATM. The new users also could ask how to
use card in ATM. Similarly, if there will be biometric security function in both services that will
be more secure to use.

10
2.4 System Limitations
There are some limitations and problems are seen in ATM and online banking of NIBL. Some of
them are as follows:

Problems and Limitations of ATM

 Software can be crack when there is heavy user.

 Choice of cash is not available when the user wants.
 It requires time to time repair and maintenance which consumes more time.
 Sometimes it doesn’t support ATM cards due to software problems.
 ATM is electronic devices so it need electricity to be operate.
 It has limited transaction i.e. less than one lakh per day.
 No use of biometric security.

Problems and Limitations of Online banking

 High chances of hacking personal information.

 It needs dedicated and stable internet service to operate it.
 It needs android or OS mobile and computer to have service.
 It has limited transaction i.e. less than one lakh per day.
 Choice of cash is not available when the user wants.
 No use of biometric security.

11
2.5 Recommendations
Firstly we would like to recommend to focus in problems and limitations of their systems to
upgrade them. Firstly they need to develop biometric security for better security of accounts and
their system. There is limit number of ATMs i.e. one hundred only so need to expand in different
parts of country for service to all people. Also, NIBL needs to provide desire amount from ATM
and online banking. For example: if they provide option to withdraw and transaction of cash more
than one hundred thousand that will be more reliable to use of these services. It should provide
alert messages to costumers in a time after withdraw or transaction of money is done. Most of the
students do not have idea about college debit card so it is necessary to advertise about it. Sometime
ATM does not withdraw cash less than one thousand and does not support card so they need to
improve and upgrade in the software system. We also like to suggest to install more servers to
handle the overload so computer system can operate smoothly.

12

1. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (Jibachh Kumar Yadav: NP000196)
1.1 Introduction

Carpal tunnel syndrome is the condensation of the middle nerve as it permits into the hand. The
median nerve is positioned on the palm side of hand (also called the carpal tunnel). The median
nerve provides responsiveness (capability to feel) to thumb, index finger, long finger, and part of
the ring limb. It deliveries the impulse to the muscle going to the thumb. Carpal tunnel syndrome
can take place in one or both of hands. In Nepal Investment Bank Limited (NIBL) has been
implementing various tools and ideas to improve their employees work performance. Passive
working habits can cause such problems. Due aging problem most of the employee cannot
maintain their work place comfortable so it lack their performance specially in banking sector.
Inflammation inside wrist causes the shrinking in carpal tunnel syndrome. It can lead to deadness,
faintness, and itchy on the side of your hand near the thumb (Luke Barre, 2018).

The discomfort in carpal tunnel is due to additional pressure in wrist and on the center nerve. The
most communal cause of this infection is a primary medical condition that causes inflammation in
the wrist, and occasionally obstructed blood flow. Carpal tunnel syndrome can be made poorer if
the wrist is overstretched frequently. Recurrent gesture of your wrist contributes to inflammation
and compression of the center nerve. This may be the result of:

 positioning of wrists while using keyboard or mouse

 prolonged exposure to vibrations from using hand tools or power tools
 any repeated movement that overextends wrist, such as playing the piano or typing

Women are three times extra possible to have carpal tunnel syndrome than men. Factors that may
rise the risk for carpal tunnel syndrome consist of smoking, high salt consumption, deskbound
routine, and a high body mass index (BMI).
Jobs that involve repetitive wrist movement include:

 industrial
 assembly line work
 keyboarding professions
 Construction work.
 People active in these professions may be at upper risk of increasing carpal tunnel
syndrome.

1.2 Symptoms

The symptoms or signs are frequently originate beside the nerve path because of condensation of
the center nerve. Our hand may “fall insensible” often and drop things. Further symptoms contain:

 deadness, burning, and discomfort in your thumb and the initial three fingers of your hand
 diabetes
 thyroid dysfunction
 fluid retention from pregnancy or menopause
 high blood pressure
 autoimmune disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis
 fractures or trauma to the wrist
 discomfort and piping hot that travels up your arm
 wrist pain at night that affects with sleep
 weakness in the muscles of the hand

Symptoms tend to arise or get poorer after using the contaminated hand. The feeling of itchy,
burning, and pain may get worse if the arm or hand has been in the similar position for a long
period (Dr. Srivatsa Subramanya, 2018).
1.3 Healing Method

Measures to reduce the risk of developing CTS (Carpal Tunnel Syndrome) include:

 Not transfixing too hard when carrying out manual tasks.

 Not over bending the wrist, for sample, all the way down or up.
 Snoozing and at work with the wrists straight.
 Avoiding recurrent flexing and extending of the wrists.
 Maintaining correct posture to prevent putting undue strain on the wrist and hands.
 Reshaping the workplace to decrease unusual and difficult wrist locations.
 Resting and taking recurrent breaks when performing predictable tasks to guard against
the long-term special effects.
 Keeping the hands sincere by wearing handbags in an icy atmosphere, by way of having
icy hands can increase the danger of increasing CTS (Carpal Tunnel Syndrome).
 treating any underlying conditions, for example, establishing good glucose control to help
prevent the complications of diabetes

According to the National Library of Medicine, there is no evidence that using a computer
increases the risk of CTS, but ergonomic keyboards with an elevated and curved keyboard may
reduce strain by helping to keep the hands in a neutral position.

Some people recommend hand movement exercises, including yoga, and massages, but research
has not confirmed that these are effective.
1.4 Recommendations

The organization can use the document stand for their employee to reduce the amount of neck
winding or twisting forward when typing from a source document. There must be the centering
monitor with keyboard and chair. We didn’t find the proper arrangement to the staffs so they must
rearrange the work area to avoid excess bending, slouching and reaching. To provide flexible
armrests and marginally slanted back rest with slip-resistant fiber. Replacing older chair which do
not have lumber support with the new one to resist the uncomforntness. Nepal Investment Ban
administration must encourage their employees to take micro break rather than traditional 15
minute break for every two hours. There was not a right placement for the monitor so placing the
monitor at right angle with window is the best way to reduce CTS. Last but not least conceivable
working with light screen foundation is more comfortable practice.
