Introduction: Often times we find ourselves a little peck-ish and in need of something between a
snack and a full meal. Have you ever found yourself in this situation? I know I do and I usually
come up empty handed from indecisiveness. Now let me walk you through how to make the
perfect solution...a grilled cheese sandwich.

I.I know what you’re thinking, “how complex can grilled cheese really be?”. Let’s begin…
A. Choosing Your Bread
1. Our first option is white bread for the kid at heart
2. Sourdough is also a valiant option for a tangy and multi textured taste
3. My personal favorite, a croissant for an extra buttery and flakey shell

B. Now that you have chosen your bread it’s time to butter
1. We will be using 1 ½ tablespoons of butter or margarine
2. You will simply spread it evenly on BOTH sides of the bread
3. Make sure your bread isn't too soggy or it will burn quickly

II. Next up, choose your fighter: Cheese Edition

A. The types of cheeses you have to choose from are almost endless
1. Cheddar for a classic grilled cheese
2. Peppered Jack for those who prefer a little bit of zest
3. Lastly, muenster cheese for a savory blend of white American and cheddar

B. Choosing our protein

1. We will be adding turkey bacon to our grilled cheese to add some zest and crunch
2. Before using the bacon we will fry two strips for 3 ½ minutes
3. Then we will crumble it to be finely dispersed
Transition: At this point you could combine your ingredients and toast your grilled cheese, but
we’re going to take it a step further.

III. The cheese adds a good source of calcium and the bacon adds protein, now it’s time to add
“seasoning” so to speak.
A. Our seasoning is essentially going to be chile paste, such as dried ancho chile
1. This will be spread on the bread in a LIGHT layer over the butter
2. Once this is done we can now begin assembling our grilled cheese

B. Toasting the grilled cheese is going to be very straight forward

1. Choose an iron skillet and place it on the stove
2. Let it heat up on medium heat
3. Place one piece of bread on the pan and adjust heat if necessary

C. Combining the ingredients

1. After placing the one toast add one slice of cheese on top
2. Sprinkle the bacon bits generously, add another slice of cheese and add the top
bread together
3. Toast each side evenly until the cheese is runny and bread is a golden color.
Enjoy!

Conclusion: Making grilled cheese has never been a particularly difficult task but changing up
the ingredients allows for it to have a whole new flavor! The extra few minutes it takes is
definitely worth the final product. Any time you’re ever feeling a little peck-ish, remember this
extra special grilled cheese.
