Activity Title: Self- Portrait Age Group: Preschool

Originating Idea
Children were able to recognize differences in each other.

Materials
Mirror, Yarn (hair colored), construction paper, (skin toned) paints, glue on eyes, coloring
utensils, buttons

Curriculum Content:
Social and Emotional Development #7: Self Identity

Beginning

Hello class! Can everyone look at your friend. What color is his/her hair? How about their
eyes? Well today we will be getting a chance to do a drawing of ourselves.

Middle:
Early: children may just draw on the construction papers
‘Middle: children will be able to notice their actual features (brown hair, brown eyes) etc.
Later: children will be able to notice differences in classmates portraits.
Extensions:
provide curled yarn.

End
Ok students, we will be hanging our portraits on the front of our door for everyone to see
before walking in the room. That way they will know who we all are.
