Abstract. The effects of cooling the intake air on the performance of combined cycle power plants using a LiBr
absorption chiller and thermal energy water storage system are considered. A thermo-economic analysis for a 807
MW combined cycle power plant located at El-Kuriemat, Egypt is performed. The results indicate that reducing the
temperature from the ambient temperature of 30.5 to 15 °C could increase the instantaneous net power obtained from
the same plant during June by 10%. The payback period is 3.13 years, internal rate of return is 32%, and the net present
value is 7.57 MUS$. The total electric energy increase is 172,515 MW.h/year and the net cash flow is 2.41 MUS$/year.
