STANDARD INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

AXIAL SHIFT SENSORS (THURST BEARING)

1) Availability of all installation Material.
a) Installation Bracket.
b) Allen Bolt (M10), Lock Washer & Spring Washer (4 Nos. each).
c) Dowel pins & holes in brackets.
d) Sensor, Extension Cable, Driver.
2) Check for appropriate threaded holes at pedestal to install the Mounting Bracket (as per M/s BHEL Drawing).
3) Availability of Work Front at site.
a) All Mechanical Jobs Complete.
b) Rotor aligned at Zero Position.
c) Bearing cleared by BHEL for Probe installation
4) Mounting Bracket to be installed.
5) Allen Bolt to be tightened with Lock Washer.
6) Dowel the Mounting Bracket at Pedestal.
7) Install the Axial Shift – 1 sensor keeping gap as per drawing below. Connect Extension Cable at Sensor and Junction
Box end.
8) Note Serial No. of sensor + Ext. cable + Driver as per the below given table.

Model No. Axial Shift – 1 Axial Shift – 2 Axial Shift – 3

SR. NO. SR. NO. SR. NO.
Sensor VL452A11A-1002
Driver VW452AA-8
Extension Cable VK452A2
Monitor VM – 5T / 701

9) Adjust the Sensor for Set gap of 2.6mm (+/-0.15mm) and check for Zero reading in Monitor ( use ZeroShift parameter
to Set current position of ‘Rotor Zero’ if required)
10) Make a Note of following mentioned Parameters for Zero Reading at Monitor:

a) Set Gap (mm) b) Gap Voltage (VDC) c) Extension Cable Resistance (ohms)

11) Lay the Cable following the steps mentioned below.

a. Detach the Sensor cable from Extension Cable.
b. Guide the Sensor Cable through Bearing pedestal Junction Box.
c. Route cable in pedestal Junction Box through Cable Seal ( fixed inside Junction Box) and tighten it sufficiently.
Cable Seals are used to prevent oil leakage from pedestal.
d. Insert the Insulation Sleeve supplied with sensor, over the Extension Cable Connector.
e. Connect the Extension Cable & Sensor Cable connectors inside the Junction Box.
f. Cover gold plated Connector joint with Teflon Tape & finally slip the Insulation Sleeve to entirely cover it.

12) Check Gap Voltage at the Driver. Make sure reading is same as noted above.
13) Check & tie properly, loose cable loops of sensor & extension cables, which are open & close to rotating parts.
This ensures protection against damage to sensor + extension cables due to touching rotor parts.
