Title: Love Monster and the Last Chocolate

Author: Rachel Bright
Summary: Love Monster gets back from vacation to find a big, purple box of chocolates waiting for him on his
doorstep. He's ecstatic! He just LOVES chocolate- especially the double chocolate strawberry swirl. Its his favorite. But
now he finds himself in a dilemma- he wants to share the chocolate with his friends, but what if they take all the good
ones and leave the worst one for him?!? He decides that its for the best to just keep the chocolates for himself and that
way, there are no problems. But they he starts to get that "sort of queasy-squeeze feeling in his heart" and he knows that
he can't keep them for himself and that he wants to share with all his friends. Silly Love Monster finds out that his
friends saved his most favorite piece of chocolate just for him! The moral of this story is that when you think of others
you find out that they also think of you.

Describe how and provide a rationale for the way you have grouped students for this lesson: This lesson
will be read aloud to the whole class during their read aloud time. I chose to do it with the whole class because the lesson
applies to the entire class and is part of their building blocks that they need to achieve throughout the year.

Plans for differentiation: If doing this lesson with individual students or groups, I could have
the students who are more advanced create story maps or I could have them read some of
the pages.
If a student is a bit more behind, I would try to have them sound out words as we read.

What could go wrong with this lesson and what will you do about it?
-The students may start to think that they don't need to share in the first place because in the end Love Monster didn't
need to share because he was actually the recipient of when someone else shared with him.
- There is a part in the book that discussed different types of chocolates, chocolates, one of them being a
coffee flavored one. During the discussion a lot of kids kept raising their hands to answer questions about
the books but instead kept telling me they don’t like the coffee chocolates. Instead of each student saying
this over and over again, I should ask the entire group at once to raise their hand if they don’t like coffee
chocolates. This way everyone feels heard and they don’t each need to say the same thing.
