Emblematic
➢ Emblematic gestures
have a more limited
scope depending on
the culture, such as
taking your hand to
your temple to say
hello or placing it on
your chest as an
expression of respect
when you hear the
national anthem.
The capirotazo in the neck

➢ In Russia, making this

circle with your
fingers around your
neck means being
drunk. It is mostly used
during celebrations.
Greeting
➢ In Brazil they usually shake
hands with men and kiss
women on the cheek. To
greet, you shake your right
hand and simultaneously
present yourself with your
first and last name. In Rio
de Janeiro there are two
kisses. They may say
goodbye with a hug, and
emails may say goodbye
with "kisses" or "hugs.
All Right

➢ In Japan, agreement
is expressed by
circling with the
thumb and index
finger. But it can also
mean money.
Cross your fingers

➢ In most of the West

this simple gesture is
used to attract good
luck. But in Vietnam,
it's best not to cross
your fingers in front of
anyone, because for
the locals this gesture
points to the female
genitals and can
offend them.
Raising your hand
➢ Raising your hand, with
all fingers up and the
palm facing outwards is
often used in our
country when, for
example, stopping a
taxi. However, in
Greece it is better not
to use it or think about it
before using it, as you
would be sending the
person you are raising
your hand to hell.
Move the index finger
➢ Move the index finger
in the Philippines, is
seen badly if you do
it to call someone, if
you do it you can go
to prison, they use it
mainly to call their
dogs.
Caress the head of a child
➢ Caress the head of a
child in Thailand is
something offensive
and impolite because
for Buddhists this is the
highest part of the
body and where the
spirit of the people
lives, for which we
should refrain from
doing this.
Caress the head of a child
➢ If you are in India and
talking to a Indians,
and they respond with
this gesture, do not
get confused, they
are saying YES. And
depending on the
movement of the
gesture, it may mean
how agree they are
with you.
Only right hand
➢ If you are in Egypt
and you are going
to give or receive
a gift or anything
from an Egyptian,
try to do it with
your right hand,
because doing it
with your left hand
they consider it as
bad luck.
Odd numbers
➢ If you go to Switzerland you
want to give flowers to
someone either for love or
friendship, try to make the
number of these odd,
because if you give an
even number, you will end
up with a totally different
reaction than you
expected , because even
flowers are only given at
funerals.
JEWISH WEEKEND
➢ If you are in Israel or
plan to travel to this
country, keep in mind
that for the Jews the
weekend is Friday and
Saturday, because for
them the holy day is
Friday and ends on
Saturday, so their first
day of the Week is
Sunday.
Don´t Honk
➢ If you rent a car in New
Zealand, and you are in
a traffic jam or a traffic
light and the cars do
not move, keep in mind
that you should not play
the horn because for
them, this is super
offensive.
