1.0 BUSINESS DESCRIPTION

Coconut drinks are a popular beverage in Malaysia. Among them, Jones Coconut
Venture company called Jone's Coconut Shake. Jone's Coconut Shake is located in 256
Kilang Lama Jalan Ilmiah 4 09000 Kulim, Kedah. The type of product is a beverage
where the main product is coconut shake. Before his resurrection, this business was
established in 2005 in a small stall in Kampung Kulim, Kedah by Zulkiffly Amir also
known as Jones. Jones had started the business on a small scale and at that time, the
coconut shake business had no branding. However, this business lasted only 3 years in
2007 because Jones chose to try another business.

After a few years, Jones made a comeback where he chose to reopen his coconut shake
business as his sole proprietorship with innovation because he felt the business of
coconut shake gave him a lot of value. The coconut shake business was reopened in
early 2016 until now. The owner chose ‘Jone’ brand for his business because the name
Jones came from his childhood nickname. Not only that this brand was also selected
from the opinions of his peers. This business has been in operation for almost 4 years
and has two staff. Regarding capital, Jones said he started his business with RM200.
With that capital, he can only make a small profit. Therefore, he intends to buy raw
materials and other items with debt. As a result, he gained more profits and was able to
repay his debt gradually. Regarding achievements, Jones said having regular customers
and all of his customers responding well about the taste of the coconut shake, it just
enough to give him satisfaction and also a great achievement in himself.

Based on the conversation above, it can see how much the owner of Jone's Coconut
Shake feels. He looked so grateful for his business achievements. Moreover, through
this business Jones also has gained a lot of customers, whether it is adults or children or
travelers from abroad that also came to taste his coconut shake.

Last but not least, the company’s mission is to have a lot of branches to stand out
and grow with that it can help many people to try their coconut shake.

1.2 ORGANIZATION STRUCTURE CHART

Based on the organization chart, Zulkiffly Amir is representing as the head of the
company and has two staff that help him to manage his business. The scope work
of his staff such as serve customers and provide drinks.

2.0 ENTREPRENEURIAL CHARACTERISTICS

Entrepreneurial characteristics are referred to as the characteristic that should be


possessed by a successful entrepreneur to perform entrepreneurial functions effectively.
Based on the interview with the owner of Jone's Coconut Shake, it can be shown that
there were some of the competencies and characteristics can be defined.

1. Systematic Planning

The meaning of a systematic plan is an entrepreneur can use their logical


thinking to develops any ideas to reach goals with step-by-step. The owner can
be defined as a person who has a systematic plan with his business because
when the owner told his goals that he wants to open a lot of branches. To him, if
he opens a new branch it automatically can help his brand of coconut shake
become popular. From that idea, it can be seen that the owner knows how to
make his business stand out and grow in the future.

Besides, the owner said he plans to open his first coconut shake branch at Kg
Tok Kandu Penang. With his decision, he hopes that he can give more
investment in his business.

Not only that, but he also said to have a good business it must come with a
'friendly' attitude because it is important. Moreover, with a good attitude, it
reflects the person, and the business also helps to achieve his goals.

2. Problem Solving

The owner can be clarified as a person who knows how to innovate the solution
becomes easier. One of the problems that the owner's face is when the activities
of cutting coconut still use in the old way. Because of the old tools, it affects their
work efficiency. To help their work activities easier, the owner decides to order
coconut cutting machines to innovate the old tools. With that, it can improve their
efficiency while doing work and the customers can enjoy their drinks instantly.

Next, the innovative solution that the owner does is friendly services in which the
business is providing delivery services in the Kulim area for their customers who
want to try the coconut shakes. Besides, the business also has already
registered the coconut shake business under food panda to ease delivering
burden.

The owner also sought the help of his friends to help the business. The guidance
of his peers made it a factor in how Jones could come up with a good solution. It
is because he wants to seek knowledge despite his small business.
In short, through the problems that the owner faced, he finally able to solve the
problem by creating and innovating something meaningful and worthwhile in his
business.

3.0 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

At the end of the case study about a mentor, I managed to get a lot of new knowledge
about business in the real world. The company of Jones Coconut Venture or Jone's
Coconut Shake are a business that sells beverage in Kulim Kedah by Zulkiffly Amir also
known as Jones. He started the business on a small scale from 2005 until 2007. After
that, he stopped the business and try another new business. After a few years in early
2016, Jones reopen his coconut shake using the Jone brand. The brand was selected
from the opinions of his peers and also because the Jone came from his childhood
nickname. He started up the business using RM200 and has two staff to help him to
manage the business.
The characteristics that have in Jones's self that show his successful entrepreneur is a
systematic planning person. He can define his goals clearly on how it can be achieved.
His goal has the same as the company's mission which is to have a lot of branches
because he wants to make his business become more stand out and grow and par with
a good attitude.
Last but not least, Jones also knew how to solve a problem by innovating creative
solutions. As an example, by providing delivery services.
