ENHANCES BUSINESS SUSTAINABILITY
48 TH national safety day/week celebration

 Introduction
National Safety Council (India)
National Safety Council is a premier, non-profit, self-financing and tripartite apex body at
the national level in India. It is an autonomous body, which was set up by the Government
of India, Ministry of Labour and Employment on 4 March 1966 to generate, develop and
sustain a voluntary movement on Safety, Health and Environment(SHE) at the national
level. It was registered as a Society under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 and
subsequently, as a Public Trust under the Bombay Public Trust Act, 1950.

 Vision
Serving the Society by creating a preventive culture, scientific mind set and organised
approach to SHE issues. It is our belief that these issues are a basic humanitarian concern.
We equally believe that their effective addressal is greatly facilitated if their intrinsic
relationship with quality and productivity is well demonstrated.
46 TH national safety day/week celebration

 National Safety Day/Week History :

 The idea of commemorating the Foundation Day of the Council, 4th March; and the first
National Safety Day (NSD) Campaign was launched in 1972 and has since been organised
every year. The Campaign now entering its 48th year, has grown into a major national
campaign widely celebrated by industry, trade unions, govt. departments, regulatory
agencies, NGOs and institutions with the active support of the Central and State
Governments and media. It has made impact on the industrial scenario at the national
level by contributing to increased safety awareness and reduction in accidents. Started
for a single day on 4th March as NSD, the Campaign has now been spread over a week
from 4-11 March.

 The Campaign is aimed at renewing the commitment of employees and general public to
work safely throughout the year. The ultimate objective of the Campaign is to ensure
