Opening question: ​what makes things move? What in-animate objects do you wish were
animate?

Medium​:

Materials: ​Scissors, motor, pliers, toothbrush, tape (double sided and regular), rubber bands, 3
volt battery, pipe cleaners (for stability) and decorations.

Grade: grade to middle school

Vocabulary:​ electrons, positive and negative charge, circuit/ closed connection

Objectives:​ explore concepts of energy, electricity, and machines. Commucate to create a


successful finished project.

Exercises Directions (step by step)


● Cut off bristle end of the toothcrush, leaving enough of the handle to fit the motor.
● Use double sided tape top apply motor on the brush, leaving enough room for the motor
to spin
● Push red wire on to double sided tape. Use rubber band to fasten motor to handle tip
● Place positive side of the magnet (+) downwards on top of the red wire
● Tape down blue wire to positive (upward facing) side of the battery
● Weigh down the top with decorations of choice

Reflection:​ What worked best and what caused trouble? How would this project have different
outcomes with different materials (small car w wheels versus block, bigger motor versus little
motor)
