6.0 INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

A. High Voltage Switch Gears
a. Installation of HV Switchgears
 Prior to start of installation the foundations floors of the transformer, switchgear room shall be
clean and tidy.
 Installation of HV Switchgear shall be executed in accordance with the approved drawings and
vendor's information.
 Nuts, bolts and washers supplied with HV equipments like Transformer, Switchgear shall be
used for bolting of the above equipments.
 Mark the layout of the equipment as per approved drawing for positioning the equipment in
correct location.
 The center section shall be installed in such a way that the complete switchboard shall be
erected by obtaining correct clearance between each section.

 The center section of the equipment shall be checked to ensure its verticality.
 The center section shall be kept as flush to the floor as possible, or it shall be in direct contact
with the fixing channel. Initially the fixing bolts shall be hand tight only.
 Before placing each panel, check whether items like bushing, traps, wires, links and packing
etc. need to be inserted or threaded. Ensure that the adjacent parts are not tightened with
such items.
 Final placing of panels to either side of the center panel shall be undertaken alternately with
leveling and skimming as necessary.
 Serial number of each unit shall be checked against layout drawings to ensure that each
section occupies its correct position.
 Each panel shall be bolted and tightened to the fixing floor or channel.
 Original supply of Fixing bolts shall be used in every position.
 Ensure that the bus bar contact surfaces and tee-off connector surfaces are clean on both
sides.
 After cleaning, faces shall be wiped with rag to remove all dust. while cleaning care shall be
taken to keep metal dust from bus bar insulation.
 Bus bars shall be placed in position and loosely clamped from the center section of the panels
and ensure that force is not used.
 Between the sections, bus bars and insulators shall be checked to ensure that no strain is
placed on them.
 Working from the center section, bus bars shall be tightened and insulators checked.
 Make sure the tightening of bus bars shall be such that no strains are placed on insulators,
tee-off connectors etc., and bus bars are correctly aligned.
 Ensure that the bus bar covers are replaced after completing bus bar tightening.
 The switchboard shall be earthed and bonded in accordance with the approved earthing
layout drawings.
 Switchboard inter panel wiring shall be fixed and connected in accordance with the wiring
diagrams.

b. Inspection of HV Switchgears
 Inspect the switchgear for mechanical damage and abnormalities.
 Inspection shall be carried out for switchgear installation and general arrangements as per
approved drawings and manufacturer layout drawings.
 Check switchgear labels as per approved drawings.
 Inspect alignment of switchgears and fixing details as per manufacturer drawings and
recommendations.
 Check floor leveling and installation of CB withdrawal floor plates for easy movement.
 Check CB racking in and out of circuit breaker, alignment of aux contacts and smooth
operation.
 Checks shall be carried out for shutters operation and locking facility as per manufacturer
recommendations and specification.
 Check and ensure that equipments earthed and connected to main grid.
 Check continuity of earth connection and measure resistance value and shall be recorded.

 Check and ensure that V.T. tanks earthed to main ring and record resistance value.
 Check and confirm the control bus wiring is completed and properly fixed as per manufacturer
drawings.
 Check and confirm the busbars are installed and fixed with suitable bolts and nuts supplied by
manufacturer.
 All connections of busbar shall be checked for tightness with rated torque wrench
recommended by manufacturer.
 Check and confirm the Power, control cables are laid and terminated as per approved cables
schedule and interconnection sheets.
 Check and confirm the circuit name and feeder identification fixed as per approved drawings.
 Test and record the insulation resistance value for busbars and cables.
 Ensure cubicle and moving parts lubricated.
 Carry out pre commissioning test for switchgears and operations checks to confirm closing and
tripping of the CB.
 Testing protection relays shall be completed as per manufacturer recommendation.
