Language objectives
3/16/2019

1. State a topic and a grade level of a lesson plan that you have already developed or that
is available
Topic: Counting to 20
Grade Level: Kindergarten
2. Write the overall lesson goal and/or the state content standard (use Washington State
K-12 Learning Standards).
Students will create a booklet counting items up to 20. They will start by drawing an item per
page all the way up to the number 20 as well as count out twenty manipulatives to refer to as a
visual representation while they work.
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.K.CC.A.3
Write numbers from 0 to 20. Represent several objects with a written numeral 0-20 (with 0
representing a count of no objects).
3. Write the content objectives of your lesson plan.
SWBAT: Represent 20 of a given number.
SWBAT: Show their knowledge of numbers 1-20 when counting and writing them
4. List the social and academic language demands of the lesson.
 Be able to represent each number with the appropriate amount of drawings
 Talk with and ask questions about the booklet
 Be able to talk about their choices with a friend (if they feel comfortable)
 Count out loud 20 manipulatives
 Count out the needed amount for numbers 1-20 depending on the number they are trying
to show
 Raise hand and ask questions if lost or if they need more support/help.
5. Choose one social language and one academic language demand from the list you
provided above to use in writing your language objectives. Justify your choice in a
maximum of one paragraph (three sentences).
Social: answer questions about their book and describe what they chose
Academic: Count out loud 20 manipulatives
I chose these objectives because this lesson is about showing their knowledge and as a tool for
students. By being able to ask and answer questions about their book they are meeting social
demands by having a conversation. Showing appropriate mathematical skills when counting out
the appropriate amount of manipulatives and proving their abilities of counting from 1 to 20.
6. Specify ELP standard(s) for your lesson.
ELP.K.2 An ELL can participate in grade-appropriate oral and written exchanges of information,
ideas, and analyses, responding to peer, audience, or reader comments and questions
7. Write the language objective(s).
SWBAT orally recite numbers (1 – 20) when counting out and using mathematical manipulatives
SWBAT use academic language such as ‘there are ____ objects on this page.’ And ‘I chose this
to represent ______ because ______’ when explaining and describing their choices of
representation for the quantities 1-20.
ELP.K.2 An ELL can Pparticipate in grade-appropriate oral and written exchanges of
information, ideas, and analyses, responding to peer, audience, or reader comments and
questions.
