Cree Territory Elder Video 


 

In some Aboriginal cultures, Elders are considered to be important individuals who are the
teachers and keepers of knowledge in the community. They have lived through many
experiences and they understand how actions may have consequences. In this activity, you will
watch an interview with Cree elders where they discuss the issues facing their community.
Watch the video called “Wahkohtowin: Cree Natural Law” on Youtube and answer the
following questions.  

1. What does Wahkohtowin mean?

2. Who is expected to follow this law?

3. What major historical event changed the way that people in the Cree nation lived?

4. What does Wetaskiwin mean?

5. How do the treaties between Native Nations and Europeans relate to Wetaskiwin?
