Dear Mrs. Erients,
I am writing this letter to you for my Early Childhood Education class at South Dakota State
University to thank you for all you have done for me as my teacher, and for being a great
inspiration to me. It has been six years since you have been my teacher, and I will never forget
how kind, caring, and helpful you were with me as well as other students. I have always disliked
reading and never had an interest in hardly any books until seventh grade when I had you as my
Reading teacher. I had struggled to get my Accelerated Reader points because I did not want to
read any books because I always thought books were boring and I just never really cared for it. If
it were not for you, I would have never discovered my all time favorite book, The Fault in our
Stars. You also showed me a ton of other books that captured my interest and you were the first
person to ever get me interested into reading. I have never read so many books in my life until
seventh grade, and for once, I got all of my AR points the whole year and in eighth grade as well.
You also ordered breakfast pizza for our whole homeroom class on my birthday just to make my
day better.
So I want to thank you for being such a caring and helpful teacher to me as you have inspired me
to become a teacher. I am currently studying Early Childhood Education at SDSU in hopes to
teach kindergarten or first grade in the future. I know that if I can be even half the teacher you
are, I will be successful with my future students. You showed me how helpful a teacher-student
relationship can be not only in academics, but also in personal lives. Having you to confide in
about my personal life and about my struggles with reading really improved my whole mindset
about teaching. It showed me how teachers are so much more than just educators, and that they
do influence a student’s life as a role model, mentor, and just someone to trust. Without you, I
would have probably never gotten interested in reading and would have just kept picking out
boring books that I did not enjoy. I did not know it at the time, but you have showed me what
kind of teacher I dream to be.
Sincerely,
Danissa Vetos
